31.01.07 – The hard hitting welterweight Keenan Collins, 12-1-1 (8 KO’s), is slated for February 23 nd when he will enter hostile territory and take on Lancaster’s own Doel Carrasquillo, 8-4-1 (6 KO’s) in the main event at Lancaster Host. Fighting out of Reading PA, by way of York, Collins has one of the longest reaches in the welterweight division and is one of the best talents to ever come out of Marshall Kauffman’s infamous Kings Gym..
Keenan discussed his preparation for the upcoming fight and it goes as follows, “I’ve been sparring 10, 4 minute rounds with 30 second breaks and then we’ve been sparring 8, 4 minute rounds with 15 second breaks. I learning more and being more relaxed. I got in the boxing late so I’m just learning and working hard.”
With an 80 inch reach, Keenan Collins has the natural physical attributes that even certain heavyweights would dream of. With experience, ring savvy and the power that comes with such a frame, Collins will have a unique opportunity to make a serious impact in the boxing. While receiving guidance from world class trainer and manager Marshall Kauffman, King’s gym has also given Keenan the opportunity to spar some of the best fighters in the world. “He has been in with Kermit Cintron for a big part of his learning and he has been in with Yusaf Mack, Tarvis Simms, Joshua Clotty, and Miguel Cotto,” explained Kauffman. “So Collins has come a long way and I think if he continues to stay focused he can make his mark in boxing. I would not hesitate to move Keenan to 154lbs if the fight is right because of his 6ft. frame.”
With 8 knock outs in 12 fights, and dropping his last 3 opponents, Collins power shows the promise of a legitimate 147lb contender. Kauffman continues, “His power is just as good as the other welterweights out there; the difference is that Keenan is very fast as well. He is working with Joe Pastore right now to improve his overall strength and I think that will help him tremendously.” With this power, speed, reach and jab, Collins has the ability to keep his opponents on the outside while perceiving the oncoming attack. His ring experience has begun to catch up to his natural attributes while his physical preparation has reached new levels. At 12-1-1 (8 KO’s), Keenan Collins has begun his ascension.
“Keep your eye out because I’m coming. I’m coming hard and I’m coming strong. It’s gonna be rough for a lot of fighters. When I get my shot, people will be shocked. By the time they know about me, it’s gonna be too late,” Keenan Collins.
