Yory Boy Campas Back In Action On Jan 11

28.12.06 – New York — Mexican legend and former world champion Yory Boy Campas, fresh off his electrifying November battle against John Duddy, will headline the Gotham Boxing/DRL Promotions “Winter Heat” fight extravaganza on Thursday night, January 11, at Roseland Ballroom in New York City, it was announced today..

The ageless wonder who has compiled a masterful 88 victories during an illustrious career, including 72 by way of knockout, will square off against Eduardo Sanchez (15-5-2, 9 KO’s) of New Orleans in the 10 round junior middleweight main event.

Campas is a native of Navajoa, Mexico, and began his pro career in 1987 at age 16. The former world champion defeated Raul Marquez on December 6, 1997 to be crowned IBF light middleweight champion. Yory Boy has faced such world titlists as Oscar De La Hoya, Fernando Vargas and Felix Trinidad during a storied career.

The stellar under card is stockpiled with talent, and features nine fights which will give fans action from the opening bell Gotham Boxing and DRL Promotions’ newly signed Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (8-0, 5 KO’s) brings his knockout punch and exciting style to Roseland when he puts his unbeaten string on the line against Angel David Gonzalez (5-3-1, 3 KO’s) of Puerto Rico in a six round middleweight tilt.

It will be a case of “double vision” when the exciting Velasquez twins from San Juan, Puerto Rico, who enjoyed superb amateur careers, both make their pro debuts in four round featherweight affairs. Juan Carlos Velasquez takes on Daniel Loranzeng (1-0), while Carlos Ivan Velsquez faces Newark’s Vineash Rungea (1-4-2).

Local talent will also be in the Roseland ring with unbeaten featherweight from New York City Cindy Serrano (13-0-1, 7 KO’s) scheduled in a 10 round contest; and light heavyweight slugger Joel Castillo (4-0, 3 KO’s) of the Bronx squaring off against James North (8-15-2, 3 KO’s) of Weston, WV. Coveted amateur star Darrel Madison, (1-1, 1 K0) the heavyweight from West Islip, Long Island, will be looking for his second big career knockout. Dominican Juan Dominguez, now residing in New York, will make his pro debut in a four round junior featherweight bout. And two New York City youngsters – Raymond Rodriguez and Samuel Ortiz Gomez – face off in their pro debuts.
