Holt vs. Hlatshwayo: Atlantic City Card a Hot Ticket!

02.11.06 – Fight fans in the Atlantic City area better hurry and get their tickets for this Friday’s (November 3) Duva Boxing event at Bally’s Hotel and Casino, as only a few seats remain. Topped by New Jersey’s own Kendall “Rated R” Holt (20-1, 12 KOs) taking on tough unbeaten South African Isaac Hlatshwayo (25-0, 9 KOs) for the WBO NABO Super Lightweight Title in the 12-round main event, this exciting night of boxing also features “hometown boy made good” Shamone Alvarez (15-0, 10 KOs) against fellow undefeated welterweight prospect Enrique Gutierrez (9-0, 7 KOs) of Santa Rosa, California, in a ten-round showdown.

“This event has it all and because of all the local flavor, the fan interest has been tremendous,” says event promoter Dino Duva of Duva Boxing. “Kendall Holt has been deserving of a title shot for years and he’s taking the fights to make things happen. This will be an intriguing game of ‘cat and mouse’ for as long as it lasts, with the fast, heavy hands of Holt going against the agility and precision of Hlatshwayo.”

Duva says the action doesn’t stop there. “We’ve got Shamone Alvarez, who is a huge attraction in his hometown of Atlantic City. He’ll be stepping up against Enrique Gutierrez, a former California Golden Gloves Champ and a National Golden Gloves Finalist. Those top-two fights are going to be televised live on Showtime’s ShoBox series, but we also have an undercard that is packed with other AC favorites.”

The supporting bouts are headlined by the return to the ring of Newark, New Jersey’s power-punching middleweight Steven Ham (10-1, 9 KOs); South Jersey’s former Lightweight World Amateur Champ Patrick Lopez (7-0, 6 KOs); a great local four-rounder between Atlantic City junior welterweights Brian Anderson and Roberto Acevedo; Bayonne, New Jersey, super middleweight Vincent Irwin and the professional debut of Irish cruiserweight Mike Stafford.

“Fans who don’t want to miss this unforgettable tribute to New Jersey boxing should get in touch with TicketMaster as soon as possible if they don’t want to be turned around at the door. This one is a sure sellout.”

Tickets are priced at $50-$75 and are available through TicketMaster online at ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-736-1420. The doors of the 6th Floor Main Ballroom will open November 3 at 8 p.m. Preliminaries start at 8:30 p.m. and the television fights begin at 11 p.m.
