Glen Johnson Promises KO Win Over Clinton Woods

17.08.06 – Former IBF World Light-Heavyweight Champion Glen Johnson has once more promised to KO Clinton Woods when they meet on September 2. Johnson first made his knockout boast when a conference call was held to first get publicity going for the fight. And he doesn’t appear to have changed his mind ahead of the Bolton Arena show. “I’ve heard that Clinton has commented that he is going to knock me out but I hope that when he is unsuccessful he has fully prepared himself to be knocked out,” Johnson raged to www.fightnews.com..

The pair have met twice before, with Johnson winning on points and drawing with Woods.

Woods-Johnson III is one of three world title fights on September 2, with Souleymane M’Baye tackling Raul Balbi for the WBA light-welterweight crown, while Takaloo defends his WBU welterweight strap against Michael Jennings. Plus the return of Amir Khan.

SMITH GUNS FOR BRITISH BELT

Middleweight hotshot Paul Smith has received a boost in his quest for the British title with the news that champion Scott Dann has vacated.

The undefeated Liverpool tyro takes on Latvian Jevgenijs Andrejevs at the Bolton Arena on September 2, with a title shot of some sort likely to follow at the M.E.N Arena on October 14.

Last week Smith spoke of his desire to take on Dann – and his belief that he will beat the Westcountry man.

Now Dann has vacated his title, leaving Richard Williams and Howard Eastman to fight for the vacant crown, but Smith is hoping to be in the mix next year.
