“CMX Boxeo de Campeones” Returns to The Orleans on Friday

12.08.04 – Now into its third full month of production, the first internet broadcast boxing series, presented by CMXsports and promoted by Guilty Boxing – “CMX Boxeo de Campeones” – returns This Friday! August 13, LIVE from The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Motown mauler, CORNELIUS LOCK, from Detroit, looks to extend his 13-bout unbeaten streak, ANGEL MATA, from San Fernando, CA, in the 10-round super bantamweight main event, which will headline the seven-bout all-action card. The exciting co-main event will pit former NBA featherweight champion MARTIN HONORIO, from Los Mochis, Mexico, against MARTIN BERMUDEZ , from Tucson, AZ, in a 10-round featherweight rumble.

Boxing fans from around the world can catch all the action via a live internet stream, and access the replay, at www.cmxsports.com for a monthly subscription fee of just $4.95. The series airs every Friday night, beginning at 11 P.M. ET / 8 P.M. PT. Subscribers will also be able to access archived fight footage and get behind-the-scenes interviews, previews and articles. The broadcasts will be available in English and Spanish. “The Colonel” Bob Sheridan, newly elected to the World Boxing Hall of Fame, and a veteran of more than 750 world title fight broadcasts, handles the English broadcasts. The Spanish broadcast team features former NFL All-Pro kicker and veteran sports announcer Benny Ricardo and former five-time world champion Manuel Medina, doing the blow-by-blow and color, respectively. Internationally renowned broadcaster and actress Maria Felipe provides the in-ring post-fight interviews and be the ring announcer. Boxing historian Bert Randolph Sugar, former editor of The Ring and Boxing Illustrated, and the author of more than 50 books, has signed on as CMXsports Senior Boxing Analyst At-Large, providing weekly columns to the CMXsports website and commentary to the broadcasts. A new Sugar column, “Sugar ‘N Spice,” runs on CMXsports.com every Friday.

Lock, 12-1-1 (8 KOs), returns to The Orleans where he has virtually been unbeatable going 9-0-1 (6 KOs), since making his Las Vegas debut there, June 14, 2002. Five times he the southpaw Lock has tagged the first loss on opponents who were undefeated when they fought him. Lock returns fresh from an April first-round TKO victory over Marcos Israel Badillo. Trained by Roger Mayweather, Lock is a former U.S. National 119 pound champion. .

Mata, 10-10 (6 KOs), returns to The Orleans for the first time since winning his biggest fight as a professional — a first-round pasting of previously undefeated Adam Carrera, 10-0, May 23, 2003. A former Mundo Hispano super bantamweight champion, Mata, a native of Los Mochis, Mexico, brings a crowd-pleasing agreesive style which will surely present Lock with his toughest challenge to date.

Honorio, 16-2 (10 KOs), is making his 2004 debut riding a five-bout — four by KO — winning streak. The 5’10 featherweight concluded his 2003 campaign impressively, scoring a unanimous decision victory over John Nolasco, 11-2-3, in September, followed by winning the vacant NBA featherweight title last November, knocking out former Pacific featherweight champion Sergio Sanchez in ther 10th round of their action-packed fight.

Bermudez, 11-5-1 (8 KOs), a native of Culican, Mexico, now residing in Tucson, AZ., returns to the ring fresh from his biggest professional victory, a fourth-round TKO of Robert Enriquez in May, to capture the Arizona State lightweight title.

The undercard is highlighted by a six-round super lightweight brawl between Alejandro Pena, 12-5, (8 KOs), from Los Mochis, Mexico, against Carlos Nevarez, 10-15-1 (4 KOs), from Longmont, CO; and a six-round super featherweight rumble between Arturo Quintero, 11-1 (7 KOs), from Las Vegas, NV., and Corey Alarcon, 11-5 (4 KOs), from Denver, CO.
