“KRONK’S RETURN TO GLORY” Brings Detroit Boxing Legends Past and Future Center Stage on May 29

27.05.04 – Detroit will memorialize and celebrate the legends of the Kronk Gym this Memorial Day weekend with “KRONK’S RETURN TO GLORY,” featuring Kronk Gym legends and up-and-comers at the Joe Louis Arena 8 PM Saturday, May 29. The event is the part of a monthly series of boxing bouts presented by Kronk’s legendary trainer and HBO boxing commentator Emanuelle Steward and First Round Productions.

The event features Detroit’s own welterweight Marlon ‘Troubleman’ Thomas (31-5) who is returning to Joe Louis to challenge his next opponent. Other bouts will include Kronk talents Cornelius ‘K-9’ Bundrage, Brian Mihtar, Amir ‘The Pitbull’ Kahn and James ‘Cannibal’ Lee.

Any uniquely Detroit event features music and this is no exception with a musical performance by hip-hop stars G-Unit. G- Unit , who will perform prior to the main event, are protégés of the multi-platinum artist, 50 CENT.

“KRONK’S RETURN TO GLORY,” takes place on Saturday, May 29 at Joe Louis Arena. Doors open at 7 PM, and Fight Night officially begins at 8 PM. Tickets are priced from $15 to $150 for VIP Ringside. Kronk Gym has a worldwide reputation in the boxing world, home to Emanuel Steward and training ground for some of the greatest fighters in the world, “KRONK’S RETURN TO GLORY,” will introduce the next generation of great boxers to the sport.

Emanuelle Steward is the most renowned boxing trainer in the world, trainer to some of the biggest names in boxing history, and the face behind the legendary KRONK gym. He has teamed with prominent businessman Harley K. Brown to produce the series.

In a kick-off event for “KRONK’S RETURN TO GLORY,” in April at Joe Louis Arena, Ronald Hearns, son of boxing legend Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, made his professional debut in the same arena in which his father won his first world championship, twenty-four years ago. Following in his father’s footsteps, Hearns KO’d his opponent, Alex Black, in Round 2. The crowd roared as it realized the Hearns legacy would continue.

Among celebrity guests expected for the event are champion Evander Holyfield and Tommy ‘Hitman’ Hearns. Additional celebrities will be confirmed.
