Diaz vs. Augustus Headline Explosive January 30th Card

28.01.04 – Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions, Chicago’s premier boxing promoter, presents the Super Brawl Showdown this Friday night at the DePaul Athletic Center headlined by a huge junior welterweight bout featuring world ranked David Diaz facing his toughest test, Emanuel Augustus of Harlingen, Texas.

Tickets, starting at $25, can be purchased in advance by calling 312-226-5800. The DePaul Athletic Center is located at 2323 N. Sheffield in the Lincoln Park section of Chicago. Doors open at 7pm, first bell is at 8pm. Undefeated Diaz is coming off a unanimous decision over Frankie Sanchez last month while Augustus comes in looking to jump start a career that has seen tough battles against many current and former world champions including Floyd Mayweather Jr., Jesus Chavez, Leonardo Dorin, John-John Molina, Teddy Reid, Antonio Diaz, Diobelys Hurtado and Ivan Robinson. His bout in 2001 against Micky Ward was voted Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine.

Also featured on the card is the return of Rocky “The Mexican Kid” Martinez in a junior welterweight battle against Rashaan Abdul Blackburn of Cleveland, OH.

A special attraction welterweight bout pits local KO artist, Luciano “El Gallo Bravo” Perez against Mark Norge of Pittsburgh, PA in a scheduled six round bout.

In a four round junior middleweight rematch, “Irish” Matt McCarthy faces off against Michael Rush, these two having fought a four round battle this past September with Rush taking a close decision.

Also on the card is fast rising prospect, “Macho” Miguel Hernandez in a six round bout, his opponent to be named shortly.

On February 27th, 8 Count Productions in association with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Incorporated is proud to bring former junior middleweight champion Yory Boy Campas to Chicago for the first time in his illustrious career. Campas will be featured in a ten round bout against tough Mexican Roberto Baro. Tickets, starting at $25, are also on sale for this event and will also be available at the Super Brawl Showdown this Friday night.

Co-headlining the card is a terrific junior welterweight battle between unbeaten fan favorite Al “Speedy” Gonzales and Las Vegas native Jessie Feliciano. Also appearing on the card is the return of the classy junior middleweight, Freddie Cuevas. Additional information on this card will be available in the very near future.
