10.12.03 – By Ike Enwereuzor: www.Jacboxing.com – Undefeated WBC Cruiserweight Champion, Wayne “Big Truck” Braitwaite from Georgetown, Guyana now fighting out of Brooklyn, NY carries a professional record of (19-0) 16 knockouts will be making his second title defense on Saturday December 13, against Panamanian, Luis Pinedal (17-3)15 KO’s. Braithwaite’s last outing was February 21, this year when he dismantled Ravea Springs in round four to retain his belt. IBF Cruiserweight Champion James “Lightsout” Toney, who was one of the commentator for the fight expressed his feelings that he doesn’t like young Braithwaite, while at the same time, Braithwaite hates Toney.
Braithwaite captured the WBC Cruiserweight championship October 11, 2002 when he stopped Italian Vincenzo Cantatore in 10th round to win the vacant cruiserweight laurel. Braithwaite started his professional career February 28, 1997 in Guyana stopping John Douglas in fourth round. He’s what the WBC Cruiserweight had to say:
Ike: Everyone in Boxing knows that James Toney don’t like you. What do you have to say to that?
Braithwaite: I don’t like James Toney either. I think this a good reason we should fight each other. It will be a sold out for Madison Square Garden. I want to get him in the ring and kick his ass for all that disrespect. He don’t even know me and he’s talking all his junk. I want to put his back on the canvas so bad!
Ike: Please, tell us about your upcoming fight December against Luis Pineda?
Braithwaite: He’s a good fighter, I respect him to step in the ring with me but he has nothing special for me. I’m not taking him lightly.
Ike: How long have you been training for this fight?
Braithwaite: I have been preparing for about two months now. I’m in shape and ready to take this guy down on December 13th. I want Boxing fans to come out and see an action pack fight though it will not be on TV. My opponent is nameless and faceless to me, I don’t care what he brings on. We trained 5 days a week, twice a day and I run a lot of miles every day – at least 7 miles.
Ike: Why do you have to run 7 miles?
Braithwaite: Running puts me in good conditions and opens me up. It helps my stamina and gives me energy to go 12 rounds if I have to but I promise this fight will not go pass 10 rounds.
Ike: How was sparring for this fight?
Braithwaite: I had a lot of sparring with 5 different guys. Sometimes, we went 6, 8, 10 or 12 rounds. We had a good camp, everything is in place.
Ike: What’s it like to work with Don King Productions?
Braithwaite: We’re excited, everything is looking good and I hope it continues to be so. Don King is the greatest promoter in the world.
Ike: Tell us about your last fight against Ravea Srings?
Braithwaite: It was a good fight for me I stopped him. The fight easier than I expected it to be.
Ike: Any comments to your fans?
Braithwaite: I want my fans to come out and see a great fight as “Big Truck” comes in to destroy like he always do. I’ll not let my fans down. Thanks to all my Guyanese and other fans around the world. I love them and promise not to fail them. I hope they continue to give their supports. They will see some fight December. There is a Bus coming from New York to the December fight just, join the Bus people and come see some great fight because it will not be on TV. Don’t miss it.
Ike: Please, describe your showdown with Vincenzo Cantatore?
Braithwaite: I beat him easy but I didn’t like how the Italians started throwing bottles and things at me after I knocked him out. Before the fight they treated me fine.
Ike: We learn that they want you to fight Cantatore again. How
truthful is this?
Braithwaite: I don’t think Vincenzo want any part of me again but his promoter keep trying to make this rematch. Next time, I’ll kill him but I know he don’t want it just promoters pushing him. I don’t think it will happen again. They can talk to Don King if they want to do it again.
Ike: What is really your impression of James Toney?
Braithwaite: I don’t like him, I don’t care what he did in the past. He fought Holyfield when he was done. He needs to fight a youth like me. We don’t like each other, so we need to fight. I’ll knock James Toney out if he ever steps in ring with me. I want my purse taken if I don’t kick Toney’s ass. Next time I see him, I’ll punch him in his face, because he keeps disrespecting me! He needs to mind his own business unless he wants to fight, then we can get it on and see who is the man. I think James Toney and I have something in common – we don’t like each other, so I can’t wait to get him inside ring and knock him out.
Ike: Anything else you want to tell your fans about December 13 fight?
Braithwaite: Thanks for their prayers, moral support around the world. I’ll not fail my Guyanese fans. Come out and see me in action. Luis Pineda, I hope you’ll show up December 13. See you in the ring then.
