Hearn hinting Khan may need to be B-side against Brook

If a fight between Amir Khan and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook can take place next year, it might require for Khan to take the lesser money and accept being the B-side of the equation.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is dropping some big hints that Khan may not get the money split that he once could have got if he had taken the fight against Brook before he captured the IBF 147 pound title last Saturday night against Porter.

In Hearn’s mind, the IBF strap and the win over Porter changes everything. Khan doesn’t have the IBF title and he not in the position to call the shots like he could have in the past.

“Obviously, before Khan should get the bigger end because he’s the bigger name,” Hearn said to IFL TV. “Khan never did great numbers on pay-per-view. When he went to Sheffield last time, they really didn’t sell any tickets.

Loeffler sees Rubio as tough test for Golovkin

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions believes that former two time world title challenger Marco Antoknio Rubio will be a tough test for his fighter WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) in their West Coast fight on October 18th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The 34-year-old Rubio has twice fought for world titles and twice gone down to defeat to Kelly Pavlik and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Rubio has tried and failed in getting exposed by those two fighters.

Danny Garcia – Viktor Postol fight ordered by WBC

WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) and Viktor Postol have been ordered to start negotiations by the World Boxing Council. There’s a purse bid that will take place next month on 9/12 if the two fighters haven’t negotiated a fight by then.

This move by the WBC will very likely cause Garcia bypass the Postol fight and instead take a unification match against IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson. The WBC will likely allow Garcia to steer around Postol if he takes a unification match.

Erislandy Lara back in action in November

WBA World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KOs) has started training for his next fight in November, according to Fightnews.com. Lara is interested in possibly facing either James Kirkland or former IBF junior middleweight champion Ishe Smith.

Lara was recently beaten by former WBA/WBC 154 pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez by a disputed 12 round decision last July in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a fight that many boxing fans felt that Lara won due to his command of the ring, and his superb defensive skills.

Hearn likes Brandon Rios for Kell Brook’s next fight on 12/6

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is looking for a slugger to help accentuate Brook’s fighting style and make him look good in his first defense of his title in his next fight on December 6th.

Hearn says he likes the idea of Brook fighting former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios next, because he’s a fighter that is well known to American fans and someone that will make it an interesting fight.

Anthony Joshua sparring with Wladimir Klitschko to get him ready for Kubrat Pulev fight

2012 super heavyweight gold medalist Anthony Joshua is in Austria sparring with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KOs) to get him ready for his fight next month against unbeaten #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KOs) at the O2 World Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

Joshua will be at the Klitschko camp for 10 days of sparring, which should help both fighters improve. This is great for Joshua because he gets to improve his game while at the same time seeing how far apart he is with Wladimir in terms of talent.

Santa Cruz: I want to prove I’m not afraid of Rigondeaux

WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KOs) is talking about wanting to fight WBA/WBO 122 pound champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KOs) in the near future in a unification match.

Rigondeaux has been taunting Santa Cruz and giving him grief on twitter by saying that he’s terrified about wanting to get in the ring and face him. Santana says he wants to show Rigondeaux how unafraid he is by facing him. Needless to say, this is a very tough match-up for Santa Cruz, because Rigondeaux is the best fighter in the super bantamweight division by far.

“Guillermo (Rigondeaux). He’s the one who’s been calling me out saying that I’m scared,” Santa Cruz said. “I want to prove that I’m not scared. I know it’s a hard fight for me, but we don’t care. I want to give the fans what they want. I want to please them and if they’re happy, I’m happy.”

Hearn: Kell Brook is an obvious opponent for Mayweather in 2015

Kell Brook’s win over IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter last Saturday night has put ideas into Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn’s head about wanting to match him not only against former IBF/WBA 140 pound champion Amir Khan in 2015, but also to put him in with WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0. 26 KOs).

Roach feels that the 28-year-old Brook rates a fight with Mayweather now that he’s in possession of the IBF 147 pound title.

Ellerbe doesn’t mind if Tony Weeks is picked as ref for Mayweather-Maidana rematch

WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) was disappointed in the performance of referee Tony Weeks for the job that he put in while working Mayweather’s previous fight against the aggressive Argentinian Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) last May at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana was able to foul Mayweather early and often in the fight in hitting low, throwing elbows and rabbit punches. While you can say the stuff was accidental on Maidana’s part, Weeks failed to take points away from Maidana to help him improve his aim. Maidana was given a warning for a low blow, but no points were taken off.
