Brook: I know I’ll beat Porter 100%

British challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) is going to be stepping out of his comfort zone in coming to the United States to challenge IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) this Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Brook has analyzed Porter’s fighting style and he doesn’t see any way that he can use his aggressive attacks against him on Saturday. Brook points to his timing and his power that will keep Porter from being able to crowd him the way he does all of his opponents.

Brook wants to hit Porter with hard shots each time he tries to charge him to get inside. Brook sees Porter eventually giving up on the idea of trying to fight him on the inside, and instead he’ll stick to the outside where Brook holds all the advantages due to his superior height and reach.

Golden Boy VP Gomez to work on Garcia-Peterson fight

Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez says he’s going to look to see if he can put together a unification match between IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) for either later this year or in 2015.

Both fighters were involved in a couple of sick mismatches last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia stopped lightweight Rod Salka (19-4, 3 KOs) in 2 rounds after knocking him down repeatedly on three separate occasions. Peterson had his own mismatch in #13 IBF Edgar Santana, who he battered unmercifully for 10 rounds until the ringside doctor stopped the fight himself.

Glendale “Fight Night” Results

Top Rank and Bash Boxing put on another fun card from their “Fight Night” series tonight in Glendale, California; featuring ten 4-8 round bouts between up and coming prospects. The main event and co-feature were broadcast live on UniMás; with former super bantamweight champ Israel Vasquez doing guest commentary. Results below.

The UniMás main event between two Mexican natives was a bit of a let down after the great opener. Things started slowly as both fighters attempted to feel each other out while not taking any risks. Rodriguez moved forward and Felix Jr. tried to counter. In the third round Rodriguez was bleeding from his nose, no doubt the result from those counter shots. By the fourth round the nose was bleeding badly and appeared broken. No doubt Felix Jr. was the harder puncher, as his shots were doing more damage as the rounds progressed. Rodriguez continued to stalk but seemed late to the punch in every exchange. Felix Jr. always got off first, while moving his feet and remaining defensively responsible.

Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson and Daniel Jacobs take care of business at Barclays center

(August 10, 2014) – Danny “Swift “ Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) looked sharp with a crushing second-round knockout victory over “Lighting” Rod Salka (19-4, 3 KOs) in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® main event in front of 7,012 fans Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Garcia knocked Salka down twice before laying his challenger flat on his back with a powerful left hook with 29 seconds left in the second round to secure the knockout victory.

Garcia, of Philadelphia, showed his skills out-punching his opponent, landing 52 percent of his power punches, 24 percent of his jabs and 43 percent of his total punches. Salka, of Bunola, Penn., landed only 14 percent of his punches.

Glazkov Defeats Rossy in Heart-Stopping Battle at Sands

Bethlehem, PA: The main event featured a brutal ten-round heavyweight battle between Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov (18-0-1, 11 KOs*) from Lugansk, Ukraine against Derric “El León” Rossy (29-9, 14 KOs) of Medford, NY.

The first round started slow with both fighters trying to feel each other out. Both guys ended the second trading very good shots, keeping the fight close. Rossy took the third round with ease. The next four rounds were close, with both fighters trading big shots. Rossy looked tired at the start of the eighth but continued to hang in there with Glazkov.

Czar suffered a cut below his left eye at the end of the eighth. Glazkov dominated Rossy in the ninth, but Rossy managed to stay on his feet until the final bell. Glazkov managed to pull out a majority decision victory with one judge scoring the bout 95-95, and the other two scoring the bout 96-94 and 98-92 in favor of Glazkov. After the fight, Czar said, “My hand was bothering me. It wasn’t broken, but it did not recover as well as I had hoped. It is not an excuse but it was still bothering me from my fight with Adamek.”

Garcia destroys Salka; Peterson halts Santana; Jacobs stops Fletcher

(Photo Credit: Amanda Kwok / SHOWTIME) In a Showtime card filled with sickening mismatches in the televised portion of the card, the much bigger, stronger and more talented IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) showed how it’s done in crushing the little unranked 2nd tier lightweight that his adviser Al Haymon scheduled for him to fight in Rod Salka (19-4, 3 KOs) in the 2nd round tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight was over after Garcia hit an already badly hurt Salka with a tremendous left hook to the head in the 2nd round that bowled him over like a bowling pin. Salka’s corner had seen enough of the mismatch at that point and threw in the white towl to have he fight stopped. Garcia also knocked Salka down two other times in the 2nd round.

Pacquiao-Algieri 6-city promo tour to start on August 25th

In an effort to drive some badly needed interest in his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s November 22nd fight against Chris Algieri, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will be having a 6-city promotional tour for them starting on August 25th in Macao, China. Pacquiao and Algieri will then travel to Shanghai, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.

With this fight, Arum probably should have thought of making it an 11-city press tour because it’s going to need an awful lot of buildup in order to get boxing fans excited about it, especially if Arum fails to add a quality undercard.

Gavern wants to give Deontay Wilder some rounds on August 16th

Journeyman Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) is expected to be the next opponent for #1 WBC heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) next Saturday night in a 10 round fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Gavern is taking the fight with little over one weeks’ notice, but he doesn’t seem too worried about it.

The 37-year-old Gavern plans on going out there and doing the best job he can in giving the 6’7” Deontay some rounds in front of the StubHub crowd. Unless Gavern’s chin is able to hold up under the early bombardment from Deontay, we should be seeing another early KO for him.

Lamont Peterson: Who cares what the media and fans say?

(Photo Credit: Amanda Kwok / SHOWTIME) IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KOs) is unconcerned that boxing fans see his fight tonight against #13 IBF fringe contender Edgar Santana (29-4, 20 KOs) as a sick mismatch at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Santana was recently beaten by Manuel Perez in 2012.

Peterson thinks it’s a great fight and he feels that Santana is going to make it an exciting and competitive match-up. Santana was picked out for Peterson by his adviser for some reason rather than having him fight a higher ranked, better known opponent.

It’s sort of perceived as a mismatch given that Peterson is facing a near bottom ranked opponent rather than someone with a reasonable chance of beating him. Peterson was beaten badly by Lucas Matthysse last year in a 3rd round TKO defeat.

Garcia vs. Salka tonight on Showtime

(Photo Credit: Amanda Kwok / SHOWTIME) WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) will be meeting Rod Salka (19-3, 3 KOs) tonight on Showtime from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

While Garcia has received a lot of negative comments by fans for fighting a lightweight in Salka instead of a highly ranked light welterweight, Stephen Espinoza of Showtime Sports, vouches for Salka that he’s going to make it an entertaining fight from start to finish.

Espinoza saw Salka’s last two fights against Alexei Collado and Ricardo Alvarez, and he came away impressed with what he saw from him. Espinoza thinks that Salka deserved to get a decision in the Alvarez fight.
