Demetrius Andrade Interview

Demetrius Andrade Interview

After 18 years honing your craft, countless hours spent in the gym, and a childhood filled with sacrifice explain to your fans how it felt to be crowned world champion when you defeated Vanes Martirosyan at the end of 2013?

I knew when I was young that my sacrifice would pay off in the long run. I knew that if I worked not only hard but smart that I would be where I am today as world champion. But my dreams and goals go much farther than this. Winning my first title in the pro’s back in November was a great feeling. There are no words to explain what I felt in my heart. It was very special for me to do it with the team I put together and my father as head trainer, the man Paul Andrade.

Pac, Floyd versus different foes: What it means to the fans

About 92% of boxing fans would not spend money to watch the “Pacquiao-Bradley II” and “Mayweather-Maidana/Khan” out of PROTEST against square pegs for failing to make the long-awaited bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Who wouldn’t think of such possibility?

The result of ESPN Sports’ survey to determine which fight the fans want the most to happen corresponds with the outcome of all the other surveys on similar subject before and after that. The latest was the poll conducted by On The Ropes Boxing Radio just this week. It’s no different. Wow! A whopping 92% of those polled voted the “Pacquiao vs. Mayweather” to be the overwhelming choice and runaway winner.

The story of world heavyweight championship contender Alex Leapai

The story of world heavyweight championship contender Alex Leapai

THE message from the judge was like one of his jabs.

Short and succinct.

The man in the dock was 25 years old. He’d had something of a charmed life. He had a beautiful wife – Theresa, his high school sweetheart. She had given him three of the most precious things in his life – daughters Cyanne, Maria and Menime.

But there he was, very quickly coming to terms with the fact that for the first time in a long time, his fate was no longer in his own hands.

It was 2005, and Alex Leapai was in the court room facing a grievous bodily harm charge after his brutal attack on a couple of local bouncers.

The judge said the brutality – which left one of the men badly injured – warranted a four year prison term – and that’s what was delivered – but with a caveat. The judge, taking into account Leapai’s children, wife and his good work record gave him some hope. “If you behave yourself inside for six months, you will be released…”

Pacquiao says he plans on being more aggressive against Bradley

Pacquiao says he plans on being more aggressive against Bradley

(Photo credit: Chris Farina/Top Rank) Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley spent most of the time during their small 2-city press tour talking about aggressiveness and the killer instinct. Bradley thinks Pacquiao has lost his killer instinct, and Pacquiao not surprisingly agrees with him and is vowing to bring it back for their fight on April 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Maybe he’s right,” Pacquiao said in agreeing with Bradley about him losing his killer instinct. “I’m sometimes just too kind and too nice to my opponents in the ring and that’s why you can’t see the aggressiveness and killer instinct. This time around I have to get it back and show I still have it.”

Khan: Why would Mayweather fight a slow fighter like Maidana?

Khan: Why would Mayweather fight a slow fighter like Maidana?

Amir Khan doesn’t see any point at all in Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana on May 3rd. Khan feels that Maidana is too slow of hand and foot to give Mayweather any problems in the fight. Instead, Khan says that he should get the fight because he has the hand speed to give Mayweather problems the same way that Oscar De La Hoya gave a younger version of Mayweather a ton of problems 7 years ago in their fight in 2007.

Khan says he wants Maidana to fight Adrien Broner on the undercard of the Mayweather vs. Khan fight on May 3rd. In other words, Khan wants Maidana to do him a favor by helping beef up pay-per-view sales for his fight with Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: “None of the Above”

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: “None of the Above”

On last night’s episode of ESPN’s sports talk show “Olbermann”, eight division world champion and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao gave the former political satirist an opportunity to probe the Filipino Congressman, concerning the future and past of his legendary fight career and his life as a politician.

The seven minute interview predictably ended with the always intriguing question regarding a mammoth and potentially historic fight with the pound for pound king of boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

When asked if he would ever fight Money Mayweather, the Filipino Congressman had much to say.

“I want the fight, but it’s up to him (Floyd Mayweather),” admitted Manny Pacquiao. “Our line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If he calls and says yes, the fight will be made.”

Tyson Fury Interview: ‘ALL The Others Are Just Pretenders; Sheep In Wolves’ Clothing….”

Tyson Fury Interview: ‘ALL The Others Are Just Pretenders; Sheep In Wolves’ Clothing...."

It isn’t just a 6ft 9in, 18 stone frame that distinguishes Tyson Fury as potentially the biggest superstar in British sport.

After 21 consecutive pro wins, the trigger tongued traveller is on the cusp of challenging for the world heavyweight title and don’t expect the build-up to slip beneath the radar.
Everybody, it seems, harbours an opinion on Fury’s fighting talent and kamikaze mindset – and not all of them are favourable – but Tyson continues to grow bolder with each passing victory.

After a frustrating 2013 in which he aired just once and was twice left stranded at the altar by David Haye, the 25 year old foghorn has penned a three fight promotional deal with Frank Warren which should culminate in a summer blockbuster with European champion and former victim Dereck Chisora.

Another Short Notice Fight for Joey Abell, It’s a Big One in Tyson Fury

Another Short Notice Fight for Joey Abell, It's a Big One in Tyson Fury

This is a late notice fight, scheduled to take place in London, Feb 15, so it doesn’t give Joey much time to prepare. Still, it’s like a late Christmas present, because Joey’s always had difficulty getting fights. Fighters need to fight to stay sharp. Those few times when Joey did get a shot at moving up, he just wasn’t ready. He’s always had the punch and decent skills, but he never had a chance to hone them. As a result, he lacks good defense and management of distance. As a result, he has come up short when those infrequent opportunities have presented themselves. His latest chance came in December (on short notice) against rising star Kubrat Pulev.

The fight took place in Germany, in front a big Pulev crowd. Pulev is a very good boxer with a big punch, but Joey did manage to drop him. Pulev retaliated with several hard body shots to TKO Joey. Those shots came from long range, and never should have landed. Normally Joey has the ability to avoid those type of shots, but he wasn’t sharp, physically or mentally, failed to step back or parry the shots away. As a result, Pulev had a heavy bag in front of him to tee off on.

Ruslan Provodnikov vs. Brandon Rios Is a Growing Thought

Ruslan Provodnikov vs. Brandon Rios Is a Growing Thought

According to a recent report by WNB.com, Team Provodnikov is interested in getting Ruslan and Brandon in the ring.

This would no doubt be an attractive action packed match, as both Rios and Provodnikov are an explosive pair. Provodnikov’s close call loss to Timothy Bradley didn’t seem to affect his state of mind, as he still believes that the victory belongs to him. Beating a very tough opponent in Mike Alvarado in October of last year, adds that much more confidence for Ruslan in his proposed fight against Rios, as it was Alvardo himself that delivered Rios a loss in March of 2013.
