Bellew poised to get title shot against Stevenson-Cloud winner

bellew64Tony Bellew (20-1, 12 Ko’s) failed the last time he got a title shot against WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly in losing a 12 round majority decision to him two years ago in October 2011. Bellew, 30, is now on the cusp of getting another world title shot, this time against the winner of the Adonis Stevenson vs. Tavoris Cloud fight.

Bellew is tentatively scheduled to fight the winner of that bout on November 30th, which just happens to be Bellew’s birthday. I seriously doubt it being his birthday is going to help him beat either Stevenson or Cloud, because those guys are a step up from Bellew’s recent opponent Isaac Chilemba. We just saw Bellew struggle badly against Chilemba twice and look terrible both times.

Cleverly vs Kovalev: “I’ll leave Kovalev Shaken and Stirred” – Nathan Cleverly

BOXINGWBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly says he’ll leave KO machine Sergey Kovalev “shaken and stirred” when they clash on Saturday 17th August at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena.

The Welsh hero met with the media today at the Grosvenor Casino in Cardiff Bay looking debonaire in a tuxedo in the role of James Bond as he counts down to his own Russian roulette showdown with the unbeaten Kovalev.

Cleverly, 26, is relishing his East versus West super-fight against the iron-fisted “Krusher” who has anniahlated 19 of 21 victims with a staggering 18 coming inside three rounds and is confident he’ll finish off the seemingly invincible Kovalev.

“His record is scary reading, it’s just KO after KO, but the more I look at it the more I’m motivated to really take this guy out and prove that I’m not afraid to meet anybody, no matter what their reputation is because that is what a champion does, he faces his challenges,” Said Cleverly.

Following Dereck Chisora’s impressive stoppage victory last weekend over Malik Scott, the media and fans alike have been commenting in their droves about how the Finchley Heavyweight looked in the best shape of his career as he toppled the previously unbeaten American visitor.

To get some background on Dereck’s transformation, we spoke this week to Tom Whitehead of Soulmatefood, who were installed by Chisora ahead of his training camp for Malik Scott, to clean up the Finchley heavyweight’s diet that has caused him various problems in the preparations for previous fights. Speaking about the job they have done to transform the physique of newly installed WBO International Champion, Tom told us:

Georges_GrovesIt’s official: Carl Froch will defend his WBA and IBF super-middleweight titles against unbeaten countryman George Groves later this year at a venue in the UK to be determined soon. The exact date is also TBA but both men appeared live on Sky Sports News at 12 noon UK time today, to talk about the fight.

Froch, unable he said to get rematches with Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward right now, is excited about giving the UK fans a domestic fight that will contest two major world titles.

“I think this fight is a real treat for the fans,” Froch said. “Some people have said George Groves is not in the same class as me, but there is no danger of me underestimating him. I will take this fight very, very seriously and will bring my A-game as I always do. Groves has done everything asked of him and Eddie Hearn has done a great job getting him the mandatory position. I will prepare like I’m fighting one of the best fighters in the world.

Nathan Celverly: “I can outbox Sergey Kovalev, I’m going toe-to-with him and will knock him-out”

kovalev453As the world awaits the name of the William and Kate’s son and heir to the throne, the WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly has suggested that the Royal baby be named after him!

Cleverly is delighted for the Royal couple’s new arrival and would be honoured if they chose outside of the historical names that have been passed down through the generations like George, William or Henry to instead pick Nathan for the future king.

The undefeated Welshman continues his own reign of the light-heavyweight division when he defends his title against the dynamite-punching Russian Sergey Kovalev on Saturday 17th August at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

Dereck Chisora Takes Away Malik Scott’s Unbeaten Record With Controversial 6th-round Count-Out

chisora101Tonight at Wembley, Dereck Chisora got back to winning ways with a 6th-round stoppage of previously unbeaten Malik Scott. The ending, at the very least a slightly controversial one, came at the two minute and 56-seconds mark of the 6th.

Chisora, in improving to 17-4(11) said after the fight that he wants to go back to Germany to fight the Klitschkos, again in the case of WBC king Vitali. Scott, now 35-1-1(12) said “everyone knows I beat the count,” yet otherwise took the defeat graciously.

So, now to the controversy. Scott, ahead on the cards at the time of the stoppage and having boxed very well, was belted by a right hand shot that landed on the back of the head as he was on the ropes. Scott went down, smiling as he did so, appearing relatively unhurt.

Chisora: Malik Scott will gas out; he’s going to get stopped

chisora6Heavyweight Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KO’s) is predicting that American Malik Scott (35-0-1, 12 KO’s) will run out of gas tonight at some point from his pressure and end up getting stopped before the finish line at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Chisora thinks he’ll wear Scott down with his constant pressure that he puts on him.

Chisora said to The Sun, “Malik Scott is going to get stopped because he ain’t got a clue. He’s going to gas out. When the thing starts hitting the fan most people fold.”

The thing with Chisora is he doesn’t always win even when he wears down his opponents with his pressure. We saw Chisora tire WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and Robert Helenius both out and still lose to both of them.
