There were some colourful scenes earlier today at the inaugural press conference to officially announce October 24th’s WBA/WBO/IBF heavyweight title clash between dominant lineal champion Wladimir Klitschko and mandatory challenger Tyson Fury, with the Brit sounding the warning – “I am the new blood in the division.”

6ft 9″ Fury was in confident mood when addressing the assembled media, insisting that he will present a challenge the long reigning champion is yet to see, referring to the Ukrainian as ‘boring’.

Big punching Argentinian Lucas Matthysse will face Ukraine’s Viktor Postol on October 3rd at the Stub Hub Centre in Carson, California after the two camps agreed terms yesterday ahead of a scheduled purse bid to host the contest.

The two will square off for the WBC 140 lb title recently vacated by Danny Garcia, who fights Paulie Malignaggi at The Barclays Center in New York on August 1st.

Regular WBA World bantamweight champion Scott Quigg, 31-0-2 (23KO’s), laid down a marker the size of the Manchester Arena tonight blasting former World super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez, 32-6 (24KO’s) to pieces inside two rounds, in front of a packed hometown crowd.

Midway through the 2nd round, Quigg took absolutely everything from his Spanish opponent – who seemed to be warming to the task after an encouraging opener – with an enormous right uppercut that dipped his legs and left him laid on the canvas moments later following a further assault from the vicious champion.

Vivek W. (ESB): Not to be taken personally, as this comment isn’t directed towards you personally, but I’ve grown tired of the endless search by media and fans looking for “the next”. Time and time again, we continue to see young fighters put in situations far earlier than they’re actually ready. We saw it with Broner, I think we’ve seen it with “Swift” Garcia (although he hasn’t taken an “L” yet), and a countless amount of others. As it relates to Keith Thurman, I really think he has pretty good talent, and he has shown a certain amount of evolution; but anyone ready to say – at this early stage – that he is the heir apparent to Floyd Mayweather is not looking at things the way they should.

Floyd WASN’T Joking With Berto? / Snr Not Impressed

When Floyd Mayweather said recently that he was considering Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto as potential opponents for September, many people didn’t take him too seriously.

“Surely not?” was the natural response, yet it’s now starting to look like increasingly likely that the Florida man will indeed be getting the call, with a strong rumour emerging that the fight will take place on September 15, a Tuesday, on CBS, as part of Floyd’s “final” fight of his contract with Showtime, who are part of the CBS corporation.

If this is indeed true, then someone should direct Amir Khan to the nearest tall building as he’ll surely wish to throw himself off of it, having already tweeted his support regardless.

Gerald N. (Delray Beach, FL): Both Top Rank and Goldenboy Promotions have initiated lawsuits against Al Haymon and the “Premier Boxing Champions” movement. What are your thoughts and what light can you shed on whether or not these lawsuits hold any weight?

Vivek W. (ESB): At this stage, I think it’s far too early to really know or accurately say “how much weight” the separate lawsuits hold. There’s been a ton of information released, but with respect and integrity for the lawsuits independently, there’s still a ton of things we as fans and media simply don’t know. From the outside looking in, my position all along has been that it’s an uphill battle for the parties pursuing matters, for the simple fact that the man being pursued (Al Haymon) has the absolute allegiance of every fighter on his roster, and each and every last one of them has his back with total support.

Klitschko: Fury Has A Big Mouth Just Like David Haye

Fight fans won’t have to cast their minds too far back to Hamburg, Germany – July 2011 and the now infamous “Toe-Gate” saga that engulfed David Haye’s failure to back up his promises and dethrone Wladimir Klitschko. All the distasteful pre-fight talk and T-shirts depicting the severed heads of the two fighting brothers all amounted to a dodgy toe and an underwhelming performance in the end.

Since that night, the dominant champion has marched on ahead with his career and scalped a further 8 opponents, stopping or knocking out 5 of them – and ahead of his latest challenger, giant Brit Tyson Fury – whom he fights in October – Klitschko has spoken to ESPN to say he suspects the Brit fighter is going to be just like his countryman – all mouth.

Boxing bets are favoring Tyson Fury over Wladimir Klitschko

On October 24, 2015, the Ukrainian reigning heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3-0) will cross the ropes and enter the ring against one of the more formidable opponents in his late career, an undefeated U.K. native Tyson Fury (24-0-0).

Klitschko’s last defeat was handed to him by Lamon Brewster (35-6-0) in 2004, after which Wladimir went on to win 22 bouts, most of which came by way to knockout. Despite the fact that he has been challenged by a range of opponents that came with a variety of styles, Klitschko stayed dominant.

Having said that, in his last fight against Bryant Jennings (19-1-0), Wladimir’s performance was lackluster at the least, with the champion looking slow, sloppy, and unenthusiastic. Was Klitschko gassed due to the ravages of time?

Karim Mayfield dismisses Berto and Khan, says he is top choice for Mayweather Jr.

Once again Floyd Mayweather Jr. was able to make the media as well as the boxing community explode with emotion, in response to his declaration of either Karim Mayfield or Andre Berto being his next and possibly final career opponent.

In a recent interview, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) made it clear that neither Andre Berto nor Amir Khan would be able to deliver the kind of thrilling performance against Mayweather Jr. that he could.

“I’m always ready to fight anyone anywhere. The fact that the great Floyd Mayweather has mentioned me as someone he wants to fight in September is music to my ears. It would be an honor to fight Floyd in Las Vegas.

Thurman/Collazo: Can Luis Collazo Beat the Odds in Tampa?

It’s a fair question to ask, can Luis Collazo (36-6 19Kos) overcome his perceived deficiencies against Keith Thurman (25-0 21Kos) on July 11th in Tampa Florida? Bookies aren’t in favor of him (he’s sitting as a 14-1 dog), he’s 8 years his opponent’s senior, has boxed more than double the rounds of Thurman, and has been in some very entertaining WARS throughout his career.

Now I’m a betting man (admittedly not a very good one), and this fight intrigues me. Keith has been vocal about fighting Floyd Mayweather, and showcasing his talents for all to see; could he possibly be overlooking Luis Collazo? This statement is purely conjecture, but if true, he wouldn’t be the first guy to do so. Ricky Hatton and Andre Berto both had aims of a fight with Mayweather when they clashed with Collazo, and both men were very fortunate to be awarded wins in those respective bouts.
