Garcia/Broner: Will They/Won’t They?

Garcia/Broner: Will They/Won't They?

It feels like a long time now that the names Danny Garcia and Adrien Broner have been mentioned alongside each other.

The latest installment in the will they?/Won’t they drama came at the weekend, when Broner was ringside for Garcia’s hotly disputed “gift” decision against Lamont Peterson. The Ohio born motor-mouth, coincidentally alongside Garcia’s father Angel, is one of the most disliked and divisive figures in all of boxing, so the prospect of those two personalities clashing in the build up would be entertaining from a fan perspective to say the least. Neither Garcia Snr, nor Broner are ever short of something to say.

PBC Seems to Have Forgotten Caleb Truax

PBC Seems to Have Forgotten Caleb Truax

Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) offered another big show this past weekend. Danny “Swift” Garcia squeaked out a decision win over Lamont Peterson, and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillen knocked Andy Lea down twice, and came away with a draw. A notch lower comes Friday the 24th, on Spike TV when fans will see Anthony Dirrell battle Badou Jack.

The co-feature pits Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs 28-1-0 (25KO) against Caleb “Golden” Truax 25-1-2 (15KO). A check of PBC’s premierboxingchampions.com website provides profiles for each of the fighters, with the exception of Caleb Truax? Undoubtedly, it was just an oversight, but Caleb merits at least a few words.

A cruiserweight monster in the making – Dmitry Kudryashov

YouTube video
Dmitry Kudryashov, 17-0 (KO 17), a name widely unfamiliar to the boxing public, has emerged as a rising force and a sure-fire championship prospect. His latest fight took place on April 10 in Moscow on the Lebedev – Kalenga undercard when he defended his WBA Int’l cruiser weight title against seasoned Puerto Rican contender Francisco Palacios. Palacios went the distance twice with former WBC World champ Wlodarsczyk and was supposed to challenge the basically untested Russian who had other plans. Kudryashov boxed stylishly behind a tight high guard scanning for openings before he threw a double left hook, to the ribs and to the temple and put Palacios out cold. As soon as the referee stopped counting he called for first aid and the fallen warrior needed a minute or two before he woke up and a couple more before he was able to get up and sit on his chair. It was a scary ending which replaced the usual celebration of the winner with relief at the recovery of the opponent. The fight lasted 52 seconds.

Frank Galarza KOs Sheldon Moore Friday On ShoBox

Undefeated super welterweight Frank Galarza put on a show for his hometown fans, knocking out Sheldon Moore in the third round of the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Known as “The Brooklyn Rocky,” Galarza (17-0-2, 11 KOs) may have graduated from prospect to contender with yet another early round knockout on the prospect developmental series. Galarza staggered Moore with a big left hook in the third and then attacked with a series of shots to the head and a big right hook to the body that floored the Belgian boxer. Moore (13-3-1, 9 KOs) looked determined to get up but was unable to recover and was counted out at 1:41 as he lay on the canvas for the first time in his career.

Warrington v Tubieron – We Are Leeds Preview

YouTube video
Josh Warrington, 20-0 (4KO’s), returns home tonight when he faces Filipino Dennis Tubieron, 19-3-2 (8KO’s), at his beloved First Direct Arena in Leeds, backed by a ferocious fan base that look set to test the buildings foundations once more.

At stake will be the lightly regarded vacant WBC international featherweight title and more importantly the mandatory challenger position for the WBC featherweight world championship, recently acquired by the impressive Gary Russell Jnr.

To see Warrington exercise this mandatory option if victorious, which would see him fight Russell Jnr – who demolished the world-class Jhonny Gonzalez in 4 to claim the WBC crown – is hard to believe in the immediate future.
