Being a true Golovkin fan means demanding more

Being a true Golovkin fan means demanding more

Most pro fight fans pay little attention to amateur boxing. Every four years they may watch the Olympics and perhaps find a favorite whom they will follow on his journey into the pro ranks. It was in the 04 Olympics some of you may have spotted a Kazakh silver medalist by the name of Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, soon to be known in pro boxing circles as GGG.

Having been involved in the amateur scene from the late 90’s I first came across Golovkin in 2001 in Osaka Japan when he defeated Daniel Geale in the welterweight final of the Asian Games. I was instantly a fan, following him through the 03 world championships in Bangkok to the 04 Olympics in Athens.

Carl Frampton has special motivation ahead of Santa Cruz fight: “I want to win the WBA title back for Barry”

Unbeaten Irish star Carl Frampton was dubbed by some as The New Barry McGuigan after a few fights into a pro career that has now seen “The Jackal” capture two major belts as a super-bantamweight. Managed by the Irish legend who ruled the featherweight division for a short but shining time in the 1980s, Frampton’s next aim is to dethrone WBA featherweight king Leo Santa Cruz on July 30th. The motivation of becoming a two-weight champion and a big (or bigger) star in the US would be enough, but Frampton has an added motivation: that of “winning the WBA title back for Barry.”

Open Letter to HBO, Team Golovkin

Open Letter to HBO, Team Golovkin

Gennady G. Golovkin has been arguably, one of the best stories fight fans have had the opportunity to watch evolve over the past three years. A male friendly bravado and a female friendly smile have only enabled the pure star that he is to shine brighter and brighter with each fight. His power, his vintage ‘stalk-til-they-can’t-walk’ aggression, his shot selection; nearly everything about him seems picture perfect. Well, almost. That being said, we have a slight problem.

Carl Frampton sure his clash with Leo Santa Cruz will be an all-action battle

As he will be the first to admit himself, Carl Frampton’s February win over Scott Quigg, in which the Irish star added (briefly) the WBA super-bantamweight title to his IBF, was a dull affair. This will not be the case in the summer when Frampton moves up to featherweight to face Mexican warrior Leo Santa Cruz. The fight, still to have its date officially announced, will very possibly be a Fight of The Year candidate.

Frampton himself, in speaking with Irish-Boxing.com, promises fans there will be plenty of action.

Golovkin-Wade brings in big ratings on HBO

Los Angeles, CA (April 26, 2016) Boxing Superstar and Unified Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s, 35-0 (32KO’s), second round destruction of Mandatory Challenger Dominic Wade, 18-1-0 (12KO’s) this past Saturday night was the most watched HBO boxing event in 2016 with 1,325,000 viewers.
