Tonight at Wembley, well-travelled Oklahoma warrior Carson Jones took away Ben Hall’s unbeaten record and also picked up the vacant WBC international silver belt at super-welterweight. Ultra-experienced and teak-tough, Jones scored a 6th-round TKO over Hall, to see his record improve to 40-11-3(30). Hall, hailing from Essex, falls to 9-1-1(2).

Jones, who is well known to British fight fans for his two fights with Kell Brook (one close decision loss, one TKO defeat) and Brian Rose (a quick stoppage win and a decision defeat) proved to be too experienced and too tough for 23-year-old Hall. It was a good action fight, the third-round especially being full of action and drama. Both men had their share of success in the early rounds and the two slugged it out in the third.

Jones though, proved he can hold a shot better and he hurt Hall again in the 4th. Hall was again under fire in the fifth and then, taking too much and visibly hurt, Hall was saved by his corner who waved the white towel in the sixth. Hall seemed to have hurt a hand along with his shoulder and post-fight he said as much, saying he felt he had broken a knuckle in his right hand along with being in pain with his left shoulder.

Hall looked almost devastated at the loss, calling for another chance at Jones in a return fight. Jones, who was all smiles despite, as he admitted, being caught by some hard shots to the body, said he’d grant Hall a rematch “if the cheque is right.” Jones, who is always in great fighting shape, said he is also looking at “bigger things,” but he spoke about how much he enjoys boxing in the UK.

Jones has carved out a reputation as a fighter who can never be written off; especially by a British audience. It’s tough to see how Hall can reverse tonight’s loss if he does get that rematch chance.

Jones has been stopped just three times during his now 12-year pro career.
