The picture shows Canelo and Luna posing in the gym after rounds, both still in gloves, with Canelo raising a fist.
It’s hard to argue with what the eyes are seeing here. That September loss to Terence Crawford seems to have been a real turning point, both in terms of his aura and his physical appearance.
When you look at this photo, you aren’t seeing the “King of Boxing” who usually looks untouchable in those glossy promo shots. Instead, you’re seeing a man who has been in the professional ranks for over 20 years. Standing next to a 20-something prospect like Luna, the “wear and tear” you mentioned becomes a lot more obvious.
In this image, the lines around his eyes and the general exhaustion make him look much closer to 45 than 35. It’s that “old man strength” look, but without the vitality we’re used to seeing from him.
That fight in Las Vegas was a massive blow. Crawford out-worked and out-thought him. When a fighter who relies so much on timing and presence starts looking like a 40-year-old in the ring, it’s usually because the body can no longer keep up with what the brain wants to do.
Photos like this are the most honest. No lighting, no makeup, just the aftermath of rounds. It confirms the suspicion that the Crawford fight wasn’t just a bad night, but perhaps the start of the final chapter.
Comments on X quickly focused on Canelo’s appearance, with several users noting he looked older than expected. The replies spread across the thread, with much of the attention drifting away from the work in the gym itself.
Canelo has spent years at the top level, going through demanding camps and regular sparring against younger fighters. Photos taken immediately after training often capture fatigue and swelling that are not visible in controlled settings.
Luna, who trains out of Sandoval Boxing in San Diego, continues to get rounds with experienced opposition as part of his development. Time in the ring with a fighter like Canelo offers exposure that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.
The image itself captures a brief moment after work. The reaction says more about how closely fans watch him at this stage of his career.
With his return now confirmed for September 12 in Riyadh, the big question is whether he can turn back the clock one more time or if we’re going to see another “40-year-old” performance.
