Shortly after the completion of the Canelo-Khan fight, Gilberto Mendoza, (president of the WBA) said he was waiting for his counterpart WBC Mauricio Sulaiman, to make the most expected fight between Saul Alvarez and his “mandatory” Gennady Golovkin.
Unfortunately, we all know what happened, the Mexican fighter gave up his middleweight title days after his famous post interview (after knocking out Amir Khan in 5 rounds) in where he challenged Triple G and went too far stating that it was time to stop “F around” and that he was ready to put his gloves on and get it on that same night.

Super-fight boxing’s loss could turn out to be British boxing’s gain. As stars Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will not be fighting one another any time soon – both now looking at getting it on next September, much to the displeasure of fight fans, 99-percent of which are currently blaming Canelo and his team for the big one not coming off way sooner – the two stars are now focusing on facing a British fighter in their next ring appearance.

Known for his power and dominance in the ring, Canelo Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) will look to win his third title in the junior middleweight division when he challenges undefeated heavy-hitter Liam “Beefy” Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) for the WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship on Saturday, September 17. A battle between two power-punchers, Canelo vs. Smith promises action between two fighters willing to take a punch in order to secure the next Knockout of the Year. The event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Canelo – Golovkin: De La Hoya says verbal agreement reached for Sept 2017
It seems we will have to continue playing the waiting game as far as getting to see a middleweight showdown between stars Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. According to Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who put out a Tweet that has been reported by a number of sources jumping on the story, he and GGG’s promoter Tom Loeffler reached an agreement for the fight to be held off until next September.

Mexican superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez will fight again on September 17th, RingTV.com reports – but there are three different venues being considered for Canelo’s return and, more seriously, no confirmed opponent. Alvarez will fight, Golden Boy’s Eric Gomez says, either at The MGM in Las Vegas, at Madison Square Garden in New York or at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. At which weight? Gomez says Alvarez will box anywhere from 154 to 160, with “everybody” in that weight range being considered as an option.
Dreaming big: could Jason Quigley be a future foe for Golovkin, Canelo?
Unbeaten Irish prospect Jason Quigley made a big step towards becoming a contender with his last win, a May 7 points victory over the experienced James De La Rosa, and now the former amateur standout has a, the sky’s the limit attitude. Quigley may be just 11-0 as a pro, but he says in an interview with The Irish News that he already has superstars such as Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez on his radar.
Quigley, signed with Golden Boy and Sheer Sports, acknowledges how he needs more experience and that he is in no rush, but he is already dreaming of the big, big fights – a super dream fight with GGG in Ireland especially.

Speaking with Lance Pugmire of The LA Times, the ace trainer said he has still not been informed by either Pacquiao himself, or his advisor Michael Koncz what the newly elected senator will do with regards to his boxing career. Pacquiao said going into his April 9th rubber-match with Tim Bradley that this would likely be his final fight.

WBO middleweight ruler Billy Joe Saunders has launched a scathing attack on Mexican star Saul Canelo Alvarez. As fans know, Alvarez recently vacated his WBC middleweight title rather than agree to fight Gennady Golovkin (at least he hasn’t agreed to face GGG yet). This has angered many fight fans, Mexican fight fans in particular of course, and Saunders, in speaking with boxingnews24, said Canelo should be ashamed of himself.
