Amir Khan: “Arum Has Approached Us Over Pacquiao Fight” / Floyd “Running Scared”

After all his pitiful Floyd Mayweather chasing came to nothing – with the P4P king looking at a ‘soft’ defence against Andre Berto in September – Britain’s Amir Khan is being forced to look at other options, and has insisted that 2016 is going to be his year, with a potential fight against the returning Manny Pacquiao possible for Dubai.

Speaking to the National, Khan insisted;

“There have been talks of an Amir Khan fight in Dubai for many years now,. Everyone knows my position: I am ready to fight if they are serious about it. Bob Arum has contacted my team to fight Manny Pacquiao around March or April in Dubai. Let’s see how that develops.

How Should Floyd Mayweather Jr Be Remembered?

On the verge of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s final fight on September 12 I’ve been debating with myself over just how his ironclad first ballot Hall of fame career should be remembered and how high up upon the pantheon of all time greats does the self proclaimed “T.B.E.” or “The best ever” deserve to be placed.

Let’s start out by simply stating that no one with even a casual knowledge of the sport to the most ardent historian of the sweet science can deny Mayweather’s greatness. He’s 25-0 in recognized world title contests. He’s beaten two men in Oscar De LA Hoya and the late ‘ultimate blood and guts warrior’ Arturo Gatti who have already been enshrined in the hallowed halls of Canastota New York and at least a hand full of other men who will surely be enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame when they come up on the ballot.

Floyd Mayweather: Nevada Fighter of the Year

Unbeaten pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. made it three in a row when he was chosen as the Nevada Fighter of the Year once again by the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. Mayweather also won the award in 2013 and 2014. The annual Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame induction gala will be held Saturday, August 8, at Caesars Palace. This year’s event will have special meaning to Mayweather, whose uncle, Roger, is being inducted into the Hall for his brilliant boxing career.

A number of the greatest stars in boxing history will attend the popular induction ceremony on Aug. 8 at Caesars Palace. Among the big names who have confirmed they will be in attendance are Lennox Lewis, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Felix Trinidad, Marco Antonio Barrera, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad and Roger Mayweather.

Berto will not be fazed or intimidated by the magnitude of the moment

With his purported upcoming fight against an undefeated ring legend who made more money per minute (6 million plus) in his last fight than most aspiring pugilists could ever hope to make for their entire career, 31 year old Andre Berto (30-3 23 KO) comes into his bout with 38 year old all time great Floyd “Money” Mayweather (48-0 26 KO) as perhaps the greatest underdog in the history of the sport.

And that’s definitely to take nothing away from Berto’s career accomplishments. Berto is a 3 time World Champion in the 147 Pound division, he has held the coveted WBC Welterweight title and defended it five times, against four former world champions in a span from 2008-2011 in which he was seen as a can’t miss future superstar of the division. Then along came another Mayweather opponent named Victor Ortiz who simply would not be denied his moment in the sun and shocked the world in early 2011 with a major upset of Berto for his world title.

While often enough rumors are only that, speculation, this time around it seems s that Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually meant what he said when the champion stated that his next fight will be either against Andre Berto or Karim Mayfield.

According to the SweetScience, sources have suggested that Andre Berto will be the lucky one crossing the ropes to face Mayweather Jr. on CBS in September.

Floyd WASN’T Joking With Berto? / Snr Not Impressed

When Floyd Mayweather said recently that he was considering Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto as potential opponents for September, many people didn’t take him too seriously.

“Surely not?” was the natural response, yet it’s now starting to look like increasingly likely that the Florida man will indeed be getting the call, with a strong rumour emerging that the fight will take place on September 15, a Tuesday, on CBS, as part of Floyd’s “final” fight of his contract with Showtime, who are part of the CBS corporation.

If this is indeed true, then someone should direct Amir Khan to the nearest tall building as he’ll surely wish to throw himself off of it, having already tweeted his support regardless.

We Want Mayweather But We’ll Fight Anybody Says Kenny Porter

There shouldn’t be too much longer to wait now for Floyd Mayweather’s announcement regarding his opponent for September 12th and the 49th and supposed “final” fight of his career.

A number of fighters at 147 lb are in the frame, with the charge being arguably led by Britain’s Amir Khan, who will surely jump off a bridge if he ISN’T the man in the opposite corner to Floyd in a couple of month’s time!

The Brit is far and away the most vocal of potential opponents, and has been so for the better part of 2 1/2 years, yet it would be potentially foolish to rule out anybody at 147, including “Showtime” Shawn Porter, who enjoyed a satisfying victory over Ohioan rival and Floyd’s “little bro”, Adrien Broner last month.

Thurman waiting for phone call from Mayweather

A day after his victory over Luis Collazo (36-7, 19 KOs) last night on Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN, unbeaten WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) is patiently waiting by the phone for undefeated boxing legend of the sport Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) to call him and say he’s going to fight him on September 12th rather than someone like Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto.

Thurman, who did not shine against Collazo, feels that he would give Mayweather an exciting fight that the boxing public would want to see for September. Thurman believes that his ability to box as well as punch would make it difficult for the 38-year-old Mayweather to deal with him. Thurman compares himself to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who Mayweather beat two years ago. But the Thurman believes he’s got better conditioning, movement and boxing skills compared to the 24-year-old Canelo.

Gerald N. (Delray Beach, FL): Both Top Rank and Goldenboy Promotions have initiated lawsuits against Al Haymon and the “Premier Boxing Champions” movement. What are your thoughts and what light can you shed on whether or not these lawsuits hold any weight?

Vivek W. (ESB): At this stage, I think it’s far too early to really know or accurately say “how much weight” the separate lawsuits hold. There’s been a ton of information released, but with respect and integrity for the lawsuits independently, there’s still a ton of things we as fans and media simply don’t know. From the outside looking in, my position all along has been that it’s an uphill battle for the parties pursuing matters, for the simple fact that the man being pursued (Al Haymon) has the absolute allegiance of every fighter on his roster, and each and every last one of them has his back with total support.

WBO Strips Mayweather Jr. of Title

Aside from beating Manny Pacquiao for the WBO belt, there were a few more details that had to be respected in order for Mayweather Jr. to officially hold on to that 147-pound title.

It seems to be that the main culprit behind the decision made by the World Boxing Organization was a $200,000 sanctioning fee that was supposed to be paid in full by July 3, 2015.
