Arreola: I’d rather fight Fury than Deontay Wilder

#2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) could find himself facing unbeaten knockout artist #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) before the end of the year if Arreola is able to get past #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) in their rematch on May 10th at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The Arreola-Stiverne 2 fight will be for the vacant WBC title that was recently vacated by long-time champion Vitali Klitschko. If Arreola beats Stiverne, he says he would prefer to fight the unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) rather than the 6’7” Deontay, because he feels that Fury is more accomplished and has the much bigger fan base.

Unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) says he can’t wait to get a shot at whipping the winner of the May 10th fight between Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) and Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) for the WBC heavyweight title. Stiverne and Arreola will be fighting for the vacant WBC title in their bout, but then the winner has to face Deontay next until they choose to go for a unification bout against Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF/WBA/WBO/WBA heavyweight champion.

Deontay, 6’7”, wants to break Arreola’s nose in the same way that Stiverene did last April when he beat Arreola by a 12 round unanimous decision after shattering his nose in the 3rd round with a hard right hand. Deontay feels that he’ll do the same thing if he gets a shot at facing Arreola for the WBC title. Deontay likes that match-up a lot.

In what was supposed to be his toughest test to date according to most boxing pundits and fight experts, WBC Heavyweight title challenger Deontay Wilder destroyed 13 year fight veteran Malik Scott in just 96 seconds this past Saturday night in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

The “Bronze Bomber” took care of business with a cracking left hook/straight right hand combination that suddenly floored his 33 year old opponent midway through the opening stanza of the scheduled twelve round contest. Although the experienced boxer/puncher attempted to reach his feet before the referee’s final count, Scott failed to show signs of an ability to continue and was counted out by the third man in the ring.

But as quickly as the Tuscaloosa, Alabama native finished the job, fight fans and boxing scribes everywhere began to tarnish his dominant KO performance with sentiments of corruption, regurgitating the idea that the proud Philadelphia born pugilist and fringe contender “took a dive”.

While Golden Boy Promotions has relegated unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) to that of an undercard fight on the card headlined by a fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and Mauricio Herrera, Deontay could steal the show if he’s able to blast his opponent Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO’s) within the first four rounds.

The fight will be taking place at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, in Puerto Rico. Garcia is the guy that Golden Boy is setting up for a possible fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September of this year. For this reason, they’ve picked out a guy that basically has no chance of beating him in Herrera, and the fight is likely to be a situation where Garcia does whatever he wants to until the fight is either halted or he wins by a lopsided decision.

WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia made weight on Friday for his title defense against Mauricio Herrera on Saturday night in Puerto Rico. Garcia is hoping to impress the Puerto Rican fans, many of which won’t be coming to the fight to see him.

They’ll be coming to see the undercard match-up between Juan Manuel Lopez and Daniel Ponce De Leon. Golden Boy Promotions chose Herrera for Garcia to fight in order to give Garcia a better chance of looking good than if he were to face someone that he’d have to struggle a little to beat. The idea here is to try and turn Danny into another Miguel Cotto type of attraction in Puerto Rico.

By B.J. Garnett: The March 15th WBC heavyweight eliminator bout between Deontay Wilder and Malik Scott is one of the more exciting fights to be made in the last few years. It is considered a step up fight for Wilder and a last chance of sorts for Malik Scott. While Scott more experienced and one of the best pure boxers in the division, his lack of pop is truly a evident and as it was nearly impossible to keep these 250lb guys off you when you can’t get their respect.

With Wilder, pop isn’t a problem. Thirty knock outs in thirty fights will leave no question about the pop but people want to know if he is a one trick pony or will he be able to keep this up against the top competition in the division.

The Wilder-Scott fight will be a WBC eliminator bout, and the winner of that fight will be getting a title shot in 2014 against either Chris Arreola or Bermane Stiverne, depending which one of these guys emerge as the winner of their fight for the vacant WBC title in April or May.
