Be it disrespecting his opponents in the ring, or exuding detestable arrogance outside of it, the thing that has irked me the most with the Ohioan motor-mouth throughout his precocious career is his seeming insistence on lifting large parts of Floyd Mayweather’s in-ring game and failing to adapt them properly to his own. The shoulder roll, would be the most prominent example.

It’s frustrating to watch, as Broner certainly exudes a natural talent of his own – a 3 weight world champ at just 25 years old.

Porter, who has boxed up at 154 lb in the past and who comes in as a genuine welter, blowing up to 155-160 on fight night, is angry that Broner is refusing to talk to the media about the catch weight – something “The Problem” insisted on if the fight was to be made.

Porter’s fighting style is the type that the 25-year-old Broner has struggled with in the past in his 2013 loss to Marcos Maidana.

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions believes that Porter has a very good chance of winning on Saturday, even with him having to drain down to 144 to make the catch-weight. Loeffler likes Porter’s skills, and he sees him coming out on top in this interesting match-up.

He really should be focusing on the task in hand rather than looking beyond it – but Adrien Broner, who fights Shawn Porter on June 20th as part of Al Haymon’s PBC brand from The MGM Grand, Las Vegas, has spoken out to Sky Sports in the UK to say that he has his sights set on a clash with Amir Khan once he is done with his American opponent – a potentially dangerous move that could make Broner look very foolish in my opinion. Porter certainly isn’t a gimme.

There may be a catchweight of 145 for Porter to boil down to, which is the main advantage Team Broner has going into the fight, but Shawn’s father and trainer Kenny has previously insisted that this will be no problem for them and many out there are tipping the stronger, more marauding and bullying style of “Showtime” to triumph on the night.

Say what you want about Al Haymon and his Premier Boxing Champions format – that he’s going to turn it and his stable of fighters into boxing’s UFC, fighting for in-house titles and the like – but scare stories aside – so far I have been nothing but impressed with both the brand itself and the quality of the fights that have been dished up to us, the fans.
