Boxtra- SD isn’t short for Knock Out either. I am sure I read a UD but with all the different picks & your spam like posting, I don’t expect you to remember them all. The correct “prediction” was indeed another multiple choice pick. At least you got the right guy.

Posted December 11, 2012 1:04 pm

“But you can’t find where i said UD ANYWHERE” I can, Braggadamus : In the thread under the article “Pacquiao vs. Marquez IV: Firmly on the Fence, by Paul Strauss, Dec. 6, 2012. Here’s your post, cut and pasted: Boxtradamus

I predict that Marquez will win by UD!

There you go again spedmond being a fool. You stated if pac man goes out now its at the bottom. A ko or loses at the end of a fighter career . Does not dimish all that fighter has accomplished through out a long sucessful career .It didnt for Robinson, lenard ,joe lewis and it should not . Pac is not going out at no bottom. Even in his loss he went out fighting

Paddy O’Trenchnant

Pacquiao performed; Marquez fought.

Just because one gets koed doesn’t mean instant retirement. Please stop with that crap! Congrats to JMM for the perfectly timed shot with power behind it this time. It did seem Pac got very careless that 1 second but it’s boxing. Hey, Joe Louis got Koed early in his career but came back and destroyed Schmeling. Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran gets Koed and still goes on fighting and have bid victories. It was a great fight that warrents another rematch. They both earned it because the fight was in the balance till that moment. It wasn’t as if JMM dominated Pac so Please stop with that “Pac should retire nonsense”. He accepted and congratulated JMM and both were humbled in victory and defeat. To me, I’ve lost all respect to that Friggin Punk, Floyd Mayweather. Now that JMM bailed his coward ass off, he can always say he beat JMM so why fight Pac. Remember, styles makes fights and JMM showed determination, guts, and heart unlike There will be a rematch because that’s where the Big Money is now. Pac needs some time off and really understand what happened and it’s his turn now to make the adjustments.

” His stock climbed so high with the achievements of his fighters and the accuracy of his predictions” …..Quick question…does anyone actually keep score of Freddie Roach’s predictions. He’s little better than a coin toss. Quit acting like he’s omniscient unless you have the stats to back it up.

Maquez…..pudgy and lethargic against floyd……..marquez……desiel and powerful against pac…..and only a 1 pound difference. Are the powers that be putting on theatrics for the sake of a buck?

Hell of a fight! This is one of the greatest series of fights in the sport. Up there with Saddler/Pep, Barerra/Morales, Carbajal/Gonzalez, etc.

Posted December 10, 2012 2:50 pm

Whatever fights occured prior to this one are afterthoughts the ONLY one with NO controversy or even close was this Saturday… Fact is that JMM will be remembered as the man who put the stamp on this slice of history… He could NOT have been MORE emphatic, 36 rounds of back and forth do not make up for what happened on Saturday…If Marquez retires today he does so at the PINNACLE of achievement, if Pac retires he goes out at the BOTTOM… He and Ricky Hatton should start a support group even though I think Manny is 10 times stronger mentally than Hatton…

Posted December 10, 2012 2:32 pm

Aint Floyd’s fault Pac can not get past Old Man Marquez

Posted December 10, 2012 12:06 pm

Manny got reckless gunning for the knock out. He put tremendous pressure on Marquez and almost knocked him out in the 5th and 6th round and got caught. Simple as that. Marquez seemed slower than the last fight but stronger. He’s an incredibly dedicated fighter who deserves all credit. Manny was humble as always in defeat and I believe he’ll be back to beat Marquez with a cool head in 2013.

Angel Hereida (PED Supplier to Olympians) not have been involved in any way. Angel He saved his ass by snitching out others in the BALCO scandal, and even stated how he did it, and how there were plenty of ways to mask the them. I know JMM fans are roaming the streets still salivating after the KO, but using this guy shouldn’t have been allowed. He was busted by the Federal Government, so why allow this guy into a sport? JMM never had power like this. before and never had his upper torso shredded like did. Boxing needs to have the most thorough testing around or guys can possibly cheat. If JMM tested clean then so be it. He won, and should get credit, but it’s high suspect watching him train live at different camps. Mariods is noticeably bigger for a guy that was smaller than Manny before. Mariods power was a heavyweights not a welterweight. lets see the test results asap !

Posted December 10, 2012 5:48 am

Marquez displayed an interesting champion characteristic last night–peace of mind while in the heat of battle. Pacquiao was wailing on him, had his face all bloodied up, and was pressing the attack. Marquez stayed focused on his ultimate goal. Marquez did exactly what he said he was going to do. Talk about not being distracted!

Posted December 10, 2012 2:01 am

Lol So Marquez is on roids too?! Wow, I thought Pacquiao was the only one juicing it! lol

Posted December 10, 2012 1:56 am

Didn’t you idiots see the second fight where Marquez almost knocked Pacquiao down with a wide left? He barely caught him and Pacquiao stumbled and was in bad shape. That was 10+lbs ago. Marquez is much heavier now at 143, so obviously his power is going to increase. In their third fight, Marquez never really connected Pacquiao the way he did in yesterday’s fight. He connected him with a clean right power shot that KD Pacquiao. Pacquiao got up right away, but was in bad shape. The second knock down was a tremendous right hand, pushing all his weight forward….no boxer was gonna get up from that one. If you naive little people don’t realize that, then you’re watching the wrong sport.

I keep watching the re-play of that devastating K.O and that was no lucky punch like some idiots would like us to believe;the punch was timed perfectly by a fighter who is a master counter-puncher against a man he knows all to well.Marquez knows EXACTLY that is the right hand, either straight, overhead or as a hook that is the most effective weapon against PEDman;i kind of felt sorry for PEDman’s wife for a while,he looked very scared but not to worry,PEDman will be allright!!

39 years old with more power, muscles and reflexive capacities can only mean PEDS, whether delivered via transdermal gel (now the prefered way with testo to mask suppression by designer anabolics), injectable (epo, which must be tested on JMM stored urine samples), or parenteral……one look at JMM transformation is presumptive evidence of PEDS, his performance is practically proof of it.

Posted December 10, 2012 12:20 am

I want to look like Juan a juiced up monster. He looks and has so much power than a year ago !!!!! WOW I want some of that stuff. INJECT ME PLEASE !!!!!

I can’t believe people are still arguing over PEDS they were both juiced out of there minds and they will both pass that pathetic excuse of a drug test that they are given by the nevada state athletic commission.

I would hold judgment on Marquez until the results of the urine and blood samples are made public! If marquez won nice and clean then, I salute him!Mexicans and Filipinos will admire him! But if he needed to juice up just to beat Pacquiao, then he would go down in history as the most shameful boxer ever!

mayweather will beat marquez easy mayweather probally wont ask marquez to be drug tested. mayweather will just beat marquez.. again It styles that makes fights and marquez got in the ring and did what mayweather wouldnt do ko pacman. its smart business what mayweather did out waiting them all. pacquia, margarito, paul williams a earlier cotto clottey when they looked like true tuff fights for him.mayweather is a talent he will get out of the game with millions and nillions and not much punishment . but when its all over I wonder if he will be some what sorry that he never stepped in and beat them guys esp a prime pacquia

Hidalgo , JMM’s body has taken a beating. Floyd has stayed lean and mean. That’s one of the great advantages of cherry picking using long time intervals between fights as the factor. Maywether is as shrewd as a fox. Gurrero’s body took a terrible pounding against Berto and now he is ripe for Maywether’s picking. It’s what he does.

Hidalgo.. Some Farcry 3 now me thinks. Night all. Especially to my adoring and ever faithful fan base. xx

Posted December 9, 2012 10:17 pm

Yes I did say Pacquiao looked good and he did. He seemed to learn from this previous fights and tried to use more boxing than slugging. Had he stuck to that gameplan, he might have stopped Marquez instead of the other way around. But like always, after Marquez started landing, he goes wild and starts slugging. Marquez was ready for it and caught him with a perfect counter-punch. Just because I said Pacquaiao looked good, doesn’t mean I was cheering for him. I made it clear that I was rooting for Marquez, but Manny might take the victory that night. I also made it clear that someone was going to get KO’d and I was right about that as well. Nice try.

Posted December 9, 2012 10:16 pm

Chicago Guy

Marquez cheated.

Posted December 9, 2012 10:08 pm

“hidlago –do you think marquez is faster and younger than the first time he fought mayweather?” Adrian, I don’t think speed–or Juan’s lack of it– was the main issue in Marquez’s first fight, and loss, with Mayweather. Poor preparation and not knowing his opponent were Marquez’s biggest mistakes. For one, Marquez was in nowhere near the physical condition when he fought Mayweather than he is now. He also learned a lot from fighting Mayweather–like not to lunge against a master counterpuncher or to chase him around the ring. Floyd made Juan look like a fool not only because Floyd was better but because Beristain–Juan’s trainer–and Marquez himself did not properly prepare for that fight. They grossly underestimated Floyd and overestimated themselves. I think Juan made it pretty clear last night that his age is not a big factor for him right now. Juan has the mindset, skills, and abilities of an elite boxer champion. Look, I said Bradley had the ability to beat Pacquiao. I said Marquez would win last night. I’m saying now–and before–that Marquez should fight Mayweather again. If Juan prepared as well to fight Mayweather as he did to fight Pacquiao, we’d see a whole different fight. Juan Manuel Marquez just clobbered one of the best boxers in the world. I think it’s safe to think or say he should rematch Mayweather. After all, Floyd has never even fought Manny.

Posted December 9, 2012 10:06 pm

Marquez/Mayweather, again? Not sure why. Totally different fight. I doubt either fighter wants to do it again.

Posted December 9, 2012 10:01 pm

mayweather is no pacqiao to try and stop marquez for the sake of promise he gave before the fight ,mayweather didnt even risk and try and stop marquez in the last round when marquez was ready to go

Posted December 9, 2012 10:01 pm

“Marquez has no chance against Floyd.” How would you know that? Furthermore, you say “be nice if he could beat Bradley.” Well, I think Bradley would fair pretty well against Floyd–maybe better than many fans and experts think. So I’m thinking that if JMM did fight and beat Bradley, JMM would be plenty capable of posing a serious threat to Mayweather. But hey, there hasn’t even been talk of Juan fighting Timothy. Yet.

Posted December 9, 2012 9:58 pm

hidlago –do you think marquez is faster and younger than the first time he fought mayweather?juiced or not he cant counterpunch a counterpuncher… but off course now mayweather fans will claim marquez is much better now but they were saying he was past his prime before the fight pacqiao vs marquez 3 …wow amazing

JMM VS Bradely is a good fight. Hope it happens

Posted December 9, 2012 9:56 pm

“Hmm. JMM waxes Pac. Mayweather schools JMM. Do the math!” That was three years ago Kid. Marquez might be 39 now, but he might also be a whole new challenge for Floyd. Ya never know…

Posted December 9, 2012 9:55 pm

Marquez has no chance against Floyd. The result will be the same. I am glad Marquez won though. Be nice if he could beat Bradley to become the champ at 147. Or if he could make 140 there are some good scraps down there.

Posted December 9, 2012 9:55 pm

I’d like to see Marquez call Mayweather out for a rematch. Floyd will have him do the random testing of course, but if anything, Marquez is a better fight now, and better prepared–physically and mentally–to fight Floyd. AND, Marquez has experience fighting Floyd. Experience is one of the key factors to Juan’s win last night. He fought Pacman three times prior. Knowing one’s opponent is very handy. Anyways, call Floyd out Juan–he hasn’t made a decision for his two 2013 fights yet.

Posted December 9, 2012 8:36 pm

big rich, thats exactly right!! styles make fights and thats why we need fights to actualy happen not only assume who beats who..remember after mrquez los to mayweather
when paq vs marquez 3 fight was anounced everyone expected many to stop him because they assumed many got much stronger and marquez was past his prime and we fought out that wasnt a case at all..

Posted December 9, 2012 8:34 pm

No need ro a rematch. Marquez has proven to be the better of the 2.

I WANT A REMATCH!!!!!!!!! marquez won, REMATCH!!!!!!!

Posted December 9, 2012 8:29 pm

Big Rich

Guys what a great fight! Manny looked like he was starting taking control via the faster pace of the fight, then Boom! JMM deserves all the credit, what a warrier. It takes 2 to tango and Manny came to fight too!
Styles make fights so to me Manny vs Floyd is still a competative fight… I will say why… Manny has superior speed to JMM and will be able to hit Floyd as the shoulder roll doesn’t work against southpaws so he will be slightly more square on. Floyd vs JMM, Floyd has a much longer reach than JMM and will be able to pick JMM off on the counter and press the action due to speed and reach, just like the first fight. Although, I’m sure Floyd will want full random drug testing of JMM.
I for one will be looking forward to the next JMM vs Pac instalment.
This was the fight boxing needed! JMM humble in victory, Manny gracious in defeat!

tomato can–so what are saying now ?you are claming that there is no need for the fifth fight between marqez vs many because sudenly marquez is much better than many???
lol ..i dont care if marquez used stimulants because he looked much slower than in any other previous fights against many, and actualy this was the first fight that many was dominating him in every aspect and btw this is coming from a big marquez fan as i am..
it was one punch that ended the fight and thats it ,nothing unusual this is boxing
and thats why we need fights to happen to prove who can beat who and not by “assuming” only like mayweather!
i am very happy for marquez win and i think is very unfair to accuse him for stimulats
he deserves a win but also dont throw many under the bus because he actualy loooked much better than marquez for the first time but he got nailed and thats all!

Posted December 9, 2012 8:21 pm

I just find it funny that nobody is talking about how much Manny weighed. They used to say that he had to eat a bunch of food just to reach 147. His last 2 fights he has weighed in at 147 and the night of the fight has weighed in over 150. Manny is not training like he should. And that is probably because of the no defense full offensive way he fights.

I thought Marquez would silence the non-fans of boxing with this win. What was I thinking. This is as bad as it’s ever been. But, I’m happy pacfans are crying foul, and accusing Marquez of PED use. The only things is, they were no where to be found, when others were concerned about possible PED use. They didn’t give 2 cents about it then. Hopefully someday, all fighters will get tested properly. Until then, some will always have reason to question a fighters authenticity.

were discussing these fighters individually. people wanna see martinez vs mayweather first and foremost. then probably canelo or broner………….martinez vs may or may vs pac couldve happened long ago. there is only one reason it has not happened. mayweather has no man parts. any objective fan knows this. im not a particular fan of may or pac. its just how i see it from the outside looking in. mayweather has dragged it out for so many years that both mayweather and pac are “past it” now. what “formidable” foe did mayweather ever fight? i can think of one, possibly two. castillo which i think castillo won his first fight with mayweather and corrales. corrales was just a good warrior who took a good beating. not a top notch boxer. corrales is pretty much just remembered for his fights with castillo in my book. beyond that looking on the whole of mayweathers career. there is nothing to zero in on and be impressed. he doesnt have the erik morales’s, barrera’s, marquez’s. all risk and all good matchups for pac. but anyone that posed any risk to may, HE DODGED. pac took the risk, may took his fans for what they were worth and continues to or intends on doing more of the same with another ortiz. its garbage, but im sure you and yours will be buying the garbage

Posted December 9, 2012 7:38 pm

eye of the tiger

it’s only too bad marquez is not exactly some up and comer young fighter who will be around for a long time. he’s also at the tail end of his career and will soon start slipping. but it definately brought a breath of fresh air to boxing. nothing against pacqiuao. i like him a lot. but when you always have mayweather or pacquiao being the only ones relevent in boxing it’s not interesting. like yankees or patriots always winning championships. my only gripe is that if it was a younger star he can be around for a while and built up. i doubt marquez will fight past 42. that leaves us about two years to enjoy his craft.

Posted December 9, 2012 7:29 pm

peej-mayweather could fight bradley but refused to take any risk. it was pac who “stepped up” and “made” the fight. dont tell me that BS. theres not comparisson and may has even come out saying “i have to make a living” came demanding all the money from the fight. testing. just a bunch of BS. the never wanted to fight ANYONE that posed a risk. and now he will fight another oritz. lol……just laughable. and that is why 50 cent cant stand the guy. hey peej, go tell 50cent your BS see what he thinks

Bears, Pac has not taken the best fights. I can name plenty of folks Manny decided not to fight. As a matter of fact the only reason they fought Marquez the 3rd time was because they thought he was old and Manny would of been able to man handle him. Only reason they fought Bradley was because they thought it was going to be an easy fight for Manny.

Insulin helps after training, together with protein drinks: insulin transports protein and minerals more quickly through the cell membrane.

Britch: What does Berto and Guerrero have to do with FMJ and MP? Floyd is the king of in pocket counters.. that’s kinda his legacy…. if nothing else say “The shoulder roll can work against southpaws… ask Antonio DeMarco” …MP WAS tearing JMM up until that rocket counter punch (guys can magically peak in power at 40 these days in sports.)

Posted December 9, 2012 7:05 pm

Damn, you’re pathetic.

Floyd isn’t going for that mismatch rematch with JMM… IMO… unless he wants a tune-up bout next month or something.

styles make fights! What I liked about Saturday night was that Manny came to KO JMM and in return he ended up on the canvas! It was a great fight!!!
Now to everyone who thinks Floyd vs Manny is dead, I would look at what I just said. Styles make fights… JMM allowed himself to be hit and also stayed in the pocket against the far quicker Manny to get the counter off! Floyd will not allow himself to stay in there to get hit, hence the fight will be competitive, plus the shoulder role doesn’t work against southpaws, ask Berto!

Posted December 9, 2012 7:02 pm

Dave Cacciatore: “He fits all of the major Floyd categories. Marquez is much smaller than Floyd, older than Floyd, slower than Floyd, and has less power than Floyd.” – Oh wow! What pissy “journalism” this is. Floyd has been outweighed by 14+ pounds in his last two fights by younger bigger punchers (and as for speed, most fighters lach his quickness, but he’s still managed to fight at least one faster man). FMJ fought the biggest percentage of his bouts at 130 and is not a natural 147 pounder, let alone a 154er. His last three bouts have been against men who have fought as high as 160+ pounds (fight night weight) or who have officially had multiple bouts at 154. One of his most recent opponents was not only athletic and 14+ pounds bigger, but 10 years younger. And his last opponent 10+ pounds bigger and 3 years younger… as well as a bigger puncher. Dave please. Go play these games with ur grandma.

Posted December 9, 2012 6:39 pm

This is a sad time for pac fans, myself included. Its true that pac was fighting well but he brought the wrong style to the fight. An agressive minded pac was confronted by a bigger, stronger marquez with a lower workrate who was looking for a killer counter. And he found it twice. Marquez walked through punches that used to make him fall, he hit with power that pac had never felt before. What a shocking upset to see either guy KO’d like that in one punch. Where does pac go now? I hope he retires, he’s earned enuf money and he proves nothing by fighting marquez again coz we already know how closely matched those guys are. Farewell to a true warrior and legend of the sport. Generations to come will understand with hindsight why cautious boxer floyd mayweather refused to fight a prime pacman…

Posted December 9, 2012 6:10 pm

I will have to say congratulations to JMM for a great fight and effort. I didn’t get to see the fight, but knew something was going to happen dramatically. Not sure which was it was going but looking at JMM’s physique told me he was ready to go toe to toe along with his steady counters. I think PAC underestimated JMM’s power but when you don’t see a punch coming, that’s the worse punch to endure and PAC was a victim of that. Congrats to Te Tumbo for predicting a 6th rd ko as I’ve read his prediction the other day I believe. I saw the tape and it was an action packed fight that Manny requested so he asked for it and he got it in the worse way. However, I think there should be 1 more fight to see if Manny can redeem himself but I think he should take some time off and really think if his heart is really in it without risking his health. Hey, 7 years not losing is a great accomplishment, however, nothing last forever. As for Floyd Mayweather, JMM gave him the ultimate “Bailout” not fighting Pac. I’m sure JMM will get a Christmas card from him Anyway, great fight and I’m sure all of Mexico is partying all week long. Let’s hope no funny business comes up with any PED talks on JMM’s end. I’ve never seen him this built up but I will say he was clean.

PEDcquiao performs face plant to canvas and gets perfect 10

The punch was a combination of Manny being predictable and JMM timing it. JMM is an intelligent fighter. Manny is just a brute with brains the size of peas. Beristain and JMM set Pacquiao up. KAPOW! KABOOM! PACQUOUCH!

Posted December 9, 2012 5:29 pm

He timed it Like Sergio vs Williams perfectly. It hurt him cause he ran into it while he was recklessly throwing he didn’t see punch coming. Those punches are the ones that hurt the most.Hope manny is ok.But damn i didn’t feel sorry at all justice was served this was for all the stupid pactards.

Pac fans will try and bring that punch down, but the truth is other than the fact is was one heck of a perfect punch, Pac has been Ko’d before so you knew that it could happen again. Contgrats to Marquez. He definitely took the judges out of the fight

Peds are a part of the sport that pacfans didn’t care about, until he got starched with a punch that he ran into. Too funny.

Posted December 9, 2012 5:15 pm

Pacman got hit with a perfect punch flush on the chin. When you are coming in like he was that means the punch was always going to do more damage than if he was moving his head backwards. E.G Kostya Tzsyu’s KO of Zab Judah, if Judah was moving his head forward he would of been asleep for an hour. No matter who you are if you get hit like that you are going to go down. Congrats to JMM it is all about timing and luck and he had both, but that is what you train hundreds of hours for.

Posted December 9, 2012 5:06 pm

Bradley softened up Pacquiao? I don’t recall him absorbing any real punishment.

Posted December 9, 2012 5:02 pm

Talk of Peds is pathetic. PAC was leaping in to land a punch and got caught. 70 percent of the power for the KO was provided by PAC. You don’t need peds when your opponent helps you knock himself out.

Posted December 9, 2012 4:57 pm

Now the Pactards are implying Marquez use of PEDS when in reality is PEDman himself who is the most likely candidate to at least used such substances in the past.He docked random blood samples for ever, came up with all kind of excuses, even a lawsuit for crying out loud! He was the one who unnaturally was moving up in weight and manhandling bigger men with more power and speed than ever;it was he who benefited from catch-weights and bogus vacant tittle fights without even making the weight for such fight;it was he who wanted yet another catch weight fight with Cotto after he lost his tittle to Bradley;it was he who made it impossible for the Mayweather showdown, perhaps the biggest money-making fight in boxing history by letting a simple random test to stand in the way,a test,by the way,3 other men went trough without problems;it was he who took on left overs and old men(yes, including his daddy Marquez!) and avoid younger fighters, and yes,it was he who lost in such a brutal manner against his old nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez….a fifth fight?,what for?

Posted December 9, 2012 4:52 pm

BTW- Floyd will go down as one of the best pure boxers ever, but he’ll also go down as a guy who simply stopped taking on the best after he left the lightweights. He found a way to evade the best time after time while fighting guys on the slide or guys that are just not on his level. Shame on you Floyd. You should look at Pacquiao on how to behave like a real fighter in both victory and defeat.

Manny was doing alot of things in there and it just didn’t look good for JMM even though he had his spots Manny was landing more and harder often. The first knock down was crazy-I was like damn and Manny was still some what shaking up after he stood up. Great, great fight and everyone

Common Sense-you have your head so far up Floyds ass I don’t where you start and he ends-got damn dude. So you think Floyd is so special huh-then why wont he fight Trout next-why move back down to 147 when your the 154lbs champ-unify the belts with Trout but he wont do that. He’ll fight Ghost instead-the Ghost fought hard but I always thought Berto was nothing but a hype job-now the gig is up cause he should have 3 defeats on his record instead of 2. I still say Pac would beat Floyd up and stop him-JMM landed a perferct counter shot on a guy that was beating him up-probably broke his nose. Floyd don’t want to fight anybody-I guess the people should go crazy over his next fight-when he fights someone with a chance tell me about it. This dude is always tryn to avoide a real fight-cherry picking will be his undoing-I can’t wait

Posted December 9, 2012 4:09 pm

The funny thing in all of this is the fact that, it was the LEAST competitive of the 4 fights, without JMM’s sudden extra power. He was getting chopped up, broken up, and stiff legged… Manny looked fantastic… but you know what… this isn’t the first time JMM hit MP Flush and full blast.. at all… but it is the first time that he had that type of power…. guess his power has peaked at 40? awesome.

why?..because pacman ran chin first into a punch he didn’t see. (perfect recipe for a K.O.)

Posted December 9, 2012 4:06 pm

Anonymous: Actually, it wasn’t just a “one hitter quitter” …they’ve been fighting for 10 years, and it’s always been tooth and nail, up til this point, when Manny got put out as bad as he’d ever put anyone out. What advantages do JMM have over FMJ beside them fighting a similar type of style (speaking generally)? I don’t think it’s fair for FMJ to get props off JMM’s work, and I’m pissed that the fight of this era, just crumble to a JMM right hand. Maybe JMM Vs. FMJ II cinco de mayo? lol.

Posted December 9, 2012 4:04 pm

Dave Cacciatore: All due respect… Castillo got his ass whooped twice… and I see Mayweather as a loser in this. He could have countered the crap outta Manny long ago, but let the much less athletically and technically gift Marquez do it.

Posted December 9, 2012 4:00 pm

Common Sense -no you can’t use JMM as a measuring stick as a way of sayn Floyd would beat Pac just cause JMM did IDIOT. Don’t get me wrong but Martinez vs Williams 2 and JMM vs Pac 4 were one hitter quitter fights so how can you make an accurate assessment off a one hitter quitter. Both Williams and Pacman could take a good shot-neither guy was being outboxed at the time of the KO. JMM catches Pac with a good shot and stops him and you get a hard on at the thought that Floyd might be able to beat him. JMM is a boxer puncher/ counter puncher but you can’t compare all counter punchers so you don’t know what the hell your talking about. Oh yeah, Floyd didn’t look all that good in his last fight vs a guy Pac ICED a few yrs back. Great win for Marquez-he should be fighter of the year-this should be fight of the year-it had a round of the year and KO of the year-great fight. I would love to see the 5th fight. Let Floyd fight Trout next-I bet he wont do it cause he’s a sucker-will fight the Ghost instead

Posted December 9, 2012 3:49 pm

Author- I don’t think Pac was looking bad at all until that point. In fact, I think he looked better than he had the last time out and against Bradley. He fought 3 minutes of every round and, with all the talk about Marquez being so big, Pacquiao actually looked like the bigger, stronger, faster guy. But I think Nacho and Marquez had a very clear strategy- they were going for the long ball- and they did everything they had to do to get it: they added muscle, they worked on ways to setManny up and then Marquez delivered.

Te Tumbo- you’re absolutely right about Marquez being like a navy seal. The man maintains his cool under heavy fire like no one. The guy is as cold as a bank robber.

Not only did JMM and Pacman do a great job in giving the fans a great with a little everything, from boxing to slugging to the finishing touch of a KO not just a TKO,but a KO. We must also give respect to the Ref. for doing such a great job in letting the fighter fight. IMO if the ref would have stop the bout and let JMM put his mouth piece in, which would have broken the rymthm of the fight, would have probably had a different out come in thefight, most likely a UD for Pac man

Posted December 9, 2012 3:36 pm

Both guys should retire. Manny is done and JMM will not get younger. Either of them can be beaten by the younger studs that are out there today. Same with Mayweather. Some stud will pick Mayweather up from the floor when he pulls that elbow stuff and hurt himself on the fall. It is worth the penalty.

I been watching boxing closely for longer than 3 decades and have never seen a fighter like Floyd avoid so many other very QUALIFIED opponents until they were out of there prime. And to correct your statement, if Floyd had fought Manny 3 and a half years ago it would have anybodies to win.

with the wisdom of hindsight everyone is an expert. marquez is a technical master, and having worked on his strength, got some pop that was evident last night. paci avoided defense for years, and Roach didn’t really instill that in him to any significant degree.
so no surprises really. it was in the cards. mayweather is afraid to fight some fights, and will lose out in the history books as a dandified street punk, who blew it in many ways.

Oh yeah, and for those blaming Roach. Everyone moaned about the lack of fire in Pac’s previous performances, and now (along with the author of this article) Roach is to blame (and has a diminished rep) for a one punch, against the flow knockout. Rubbish.

JMM is a master counter puncher, and if Pac was to stay back he would have been picked apart. Congrats to JMM for a deserved victory. (I’m a Pac fan, but thought JMM won the last fight).

JMM caught Pac. It happens.

Posted December 9, 2012 3:06 pm

This writer is bias as heck. He blasts Mayweather for not fighting Pacquiao, but at the same time he claims JMM is too small for Mayweather.

FYI — JMM AND PACQUIAO ARE THE SAME SIZE YOU DOLT!! You can’t have it both ways here.

Posted December 9, 2012 3:03 pm

What a ridiculous melodrama of what happened. “Pacquiao also showed the same gradual decline in both power and activity from his recent contests”….. Meanwhile, in the real world, Pacquiao threw more punches than he had in ages, and rocked and knocked down JMM, neither of which happened in their last fight. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a melodramatic spin.

Pacquiao…got… caught. Nothing more complicated than that. He was edging the fight (looking more on fire than he has in ages) in a barnburner of a scrap, and got nailed.

Seriously, do these rocket scientists get paid for these articles ???

A colleague pointed out this week that Floyd could have had a trilogy with Pac by now, but fear denies people opportunities. I think Floyd would have won but that is secondary now. He’ll probably be scared to fight Marquez again now, or cheat him on the scales again. And yes I know Pac was at an advantage in the past V cotto and DLH but Floyd would never have fought Clottey, Cheato or a 140 Hatton.
Credit to Marquez in particular, for stickin to his plan through the storm and delivering a perfectly timed bomb, he had a higher KO percentage going in to the fight and the kryptonite counter-punching style needed to beat Pac.

You get the usual morons all over these forums once the fight is over, showing their ignorance & stupidity. To say that PED’s gave JMM KO power, it’s only a sample; two things contributed to the one punch KO: Pac ran into the punch & he didn’t see it coming…that’s it. (lefhook has the right idea).

Lightweight Mike

After years of stress from punches to the face..yeah punch resistance might not be there so much anymore. We were shocked when Jones got ko’d in 2 by Tarver. So now it’s like Jones?….who’s that.

Posted December 9, 2012 2:12 pm

Manny is done and one thing for sure is Mayweather would have killed him. That was a brutal KO by Marquez who did win one round when he fought Floyd, Manny neeed to stick to politics and take Cotto with him. Mayweather can go on to fight Martinez, Alverz or Guerro and retire undefeated Manny losing in that fashion changes the dynamics of the game…

MAD SCIENTIST, i detected a little rust in Marquez’s reflexes but why split hairs? he KTFO of Pacquiao* and proved beyond a doubt what we’ve been claiming all along: Marquez is better than Pacquiao* . . . Congratulations(?) for stating the obvious (lol).

Posted December 9, 2012 2:05 pm

The Mad Scientist

Tumbo I don’t think Marquez looked rusty last night, Pacquiao was just taking to many chances and was finding some success in doing so but paid the ultimate price eventually for doing so as well againt a master counter puncher like!, whatta great fight..I love how Marquez didn’t hold even when he was wobbled by was Juanms pride and refusal to lose that kept him in there through a broken nose to light up the dynamite ..boomq, the gods have spoken..Lol! Good one.

Posted December 9, 2012 1:58 pm

paq has had a lot of hard fights the punch resistence might not be there any more, hard to tell that punch would koed any 1 ,but all this talk of peds with both fighters is bull to warriors fought today and gave back boxing s self respect, grt fight the right result because i think jmm won all 3 of the previous fights ,hated seeing any fighter hurt like that though i was worried for a sec it was like when manny koed hatton scary but at least hes okay

Posted December 9, 2012 1:56 pm

And anon—Pac tore Cotto up for a very simple reason….which had to do with catchweights, or dont you know anything but chiming in about boxing.

Posted December 9, 2012 1:54 pm

anon—of course floyd will get paid…just like pac got paid but neither pac nor floyd will ever make the kind of money they could’ve have made had both fought against each other. Now that pipe dream of Floyd thinking he was going to make upwards of 50Mil for fighting pac has vanished in one night. But, that what he deserves for thinking boxing and and life revolve around him.

Hold tight for the news of juan testing pos for the roids… its coming

Posted December 9, 2012 1:52 pm

@commonsense??- you would be more credible if we all knew for a fact that you hang with floyd 24/7 and could attest to whether or not he doped or not. So at face value, you’re only entitled to your own opinion.

Posted December 9, 2012 1:49 pm

First of all, Mayweather doesn’t lose b/c he will still get paid the money he wants with or w/o Pacman. Some comments on here just don’t make sense, Mayweather is fighting bigger guys all while Pac has fought guys coming down in weight, come on man. Mayweather did not knock out Marquez b/c he didn’t need to. He has been off for so long, why not go the distance when you know your opponent can’t hurt you and plus he was getting in rounds. You gotta stop with this Mayweather fought lesser competition. These fighters all play the same game, it’s juts mayweather plays it better than all these guys. Cotto, i must say fought everyone under any circumstance but look wheer it has taken him. Pacman was always a good fighter, not great like how you guys hyped him up to be but good. Rather than bash Mayweather all the time, maybe you should start listening to him biases aside b/c he all that he said came to pass with Pacman. Remember, Pac turned down 40 mil guaranteed to go make. Go figure homie!

Posted December 9, 2012 1:48 pm

Marquez couldnt knock out Pac the last 3 fights now the 4th Marquez turned to PEDS. Hey it worked

Posted December 9, 2012 1:48 pm

Common Sense

Hey ANONYMOUS, heed your own advice slim, you don’t know WTH you’re talking about because if you knew anything, YOU would know that STYLES make fights and YES, due to $ May’s style you should/could use jmm as a measuring stick! FM is in a class by himself and his “choosing” to FIGHT Cotto was a calculated 1, make no mistake, F could’ve outboxed cotto but he outFOUGHT him sending a message as he went to lockup. You are way offbase, $ may ducked no 1 and is the absolute best hands down, never more clearer that MP was a doping flunky whose prowess was drugs! Mayweather did it.with clasd and is in 1 all of his own!

bud the chud

Pac was winning the fight and got caught by a mega punch, all this talk of him being finished is nonsense, I’m sure he would win the rematch by just fighting stale and cautious like Juan, pac made the fight entertaining by wading in and paid the price

Posted December 9, 2012 1:38 pm

Most of you guys know nothing at all you just sit down by your keyboard and start typing any damn thing. Why is everyone only using Marquez as a measuring stick to see how Pac would do vs Floyd? Cotto just bust Floyd up and look how Pac tore Cotto ass up-look how Trout outboxed Cotto-I guess that means Trout can beat Floyd huh? Manny wasn’t beat up or outboxed in this fight-he was winning the fight-he had JMM hurt real bad in the 5th and he hurt him again in the 6th. JMM did a Martinez-it was a one hitter quitter but untill a guy is in there getting beat up like Berto was then these things happen. Manny got caught simple as that and it happends. I was going for JMM but I wasn’t sure he was going to win. Before the fight I didn’t hear to many people talking like this now once again on Sunday everyone was going for the winner again-you guys suck-learn something about the sport you watch and stop riding the band wagon

Posted December 9, 2012 1:25 pm

lol finally the truth is here i told yall pacman was done bob arum cash cow is done no juice no win lol

Posted December 9, 2012 1:23 pm

Pacquiao isn’t finished at this level, he got beat by a fighter with a higher KO percentage and a kryptonite counter-punching style. Floyd may have beaten Marquez easily but Marquez caught him with a couple of the cleanest shots I’ve seen Floyd caught with in recent years. Marquez had a four and a half month training camp and it showed, no doubt Floyd would be scared to fight him again now and allege steroid use. Pacquiao and Marquez both deserve credit for fighting more frequently than Floyd and for taking ok a better calibre of fighter.

Posted December 9, 2012 1:23 pm

Well done to Marquez, i for one did’nt fancy him to win last night, but i’m glad he did. Good fighter. As for the one punch power all of a sudden, i think Pacquiao kinda helped there by not just walking but almost running on to the finnisher. Great fight to watch

Puffy my friend, Pac fights were riquier than Mayweather. Both man faught the same folks…. dont fooled by the hbo hype machine. Emmanuel used the path with Wlad. At the end all the opponents had all the motivation to fight for victory. In the case of marquez and pac 4X.

Marquez camp are not stupid they in mayweather fight with confidence and a plan to win. Mayweather won convincingely the same guy that could not.
Floyd vs Ortiz = Pac vs Bradley (diffrence floyd did let himself get robbed)
Floyd vs De la hoya compared to Pac fighting the same guy the next year what is so special with that.
Floyd vs Mosley compared to Pac fighting the same guy the next year what is so special with that.
floyd vs baldomir sorry you fight the champ or duck the champ, baldomire had koed a well hyped floyd nemesis so why not.
Floyd vs Cotto sorry and Pac vs Cotto was more noble.

Sorry Floyd, Marquez, Pac all played there cards under the same rules…. who is left on top today should be respected. And I am sure that all 3 have the out most respect for each other. I think that fight fan should do the same.

Marquez you send a clear message to your fan and to Pac. nothing but respect

Pac if you want to fight Floyd next year knock out a few contenders and we all be back to square one. He can fight floyd and do the mega fight with Marquez #5!

The Akbar One

That KO was a big deal. Pacquiao is a media darling due to the significant hype/propaganda machine Arum has put behind him. Yes, Marquez beat him three times before last night, but he did it conclusively last night.

Posted December 9, 2012 1:00 pm

Why are ppl making a big deal, ,Marquez has beaten pacman each and everytime, but the only difference is that Bob Arum could not rob him of the victory this time. Marquez are clearly only lost once, and that’s when he jumped two weight classes to challenge Money.

Now, where are the Mayweather’s haters? Imagine what Mayweather would do to Pouchio

Posted December 9, 2012 12:47 pm

Puffy, You talk like JMM has always been the “bigger” fighter in the last 4 corrupt farces.
JMM gave away FOUR LBS at the scales.

@ PUFFY: you forget Floyd v. DLH (FIRST); Floyd v. Marquez w/ OSTesting; Floyd v. Hatton (FIRST); Floyd v. Mosley (FIRST). meanwhile, it was obvious from pre-fight coverage that Marquez had given up on Arum’s judges, resigned himself to lose on the scorecards, and to decide the fight with his fists instead. Team Pacquiao’s* fight-plan of going for the KO only facilitated Marquez’s fight-plan (Roach is a Dunce). Marquez actually looked rusty to me and for a moment it seemed as if Pacquiao* might actually be capable of legitimately taking this fight on the scorecards but i also anticipated that anybody pressuring Marquez for a KO was playing with “Dinamita” and “BOOM!”, explosive and predictable end to rivalry. Marquez was always the better fighter of the two and there can no longer be any doubt or debate on that point.

Posted December 9, 2012 12:40 pm

LMAO @ Chicago Guy. Now you know why they kept this one dimensional midget away from Mayweather.

Mayweather did no loose, since it would have been an undeserved big fight for Pac. Sorry but Mayweather is human too and to say the he waited for an out prime Pac is a lie. What Maywaether prime or is the fact the he is the top of the food chaine that the writer does not want to accept. Some of us fight fan saw this Pac flaw a long time ago and we were always suprise that fighters up to now nevwe adjusted to it. The real loosers here is the media who enjoyed saying that Pac fighting style was the best and that is why he was better than Mayweather. Sorry HBO and all the others cautious and smart fighters become succeful. even Marquez camp said the first mistake the there fighter made in the first fight was not to be cautious, the result the myth that was Pac!

PS another succesfull fighter with smart cautious approach Wlad Klistcko

How about Broner vs Marquez at 140? Would that be too outrageous?

Posted December 9, 2012 12:30 pm

Bob Arum just announced that the Nevada commission reviewed the fight, and changed the score to 114-113 for Paquiao. Pac Man wins by decision.

Posted December 9, 2012 12:24 pm

I like your article, but i disagree on a couple of points.
1. Manny has taken riskier fights than Floyd.
2. I dont fully understand why people give Mayweather sooo much credit with his victory over Marquez. Emanuel Steward said (and im quoting his words) That a fight between floyd and marquez should have never happened. Floyd couldnt knock out a smaller man, he managed to knock him down once.
Floyd vs Ortiz… (what a joke)
Floyd vs De la hoya…. (a little too late maybe)
Floyd vs Mosley…
(floyd vs baldomir)
Floyd vs Cotto…

following setbacks, ridicule, and sheer robberyS, Marquez has become Boxing’s equivalent of a Navy SEAL, e.g., bold and sophisticated assaults, on the most prominent opponents on their turf, with an unwavering crosshair fixed on Pacquiao* all along. IF Marquez insists on carrying-on, he’s earned the showdown v. the undefeated Bradley, which figures to be the most logical and profitable matchup left for him to finish his career with. although, there are also several 140lbrs v. whom Marquez can put the final touches on his ring-legacy but that is all those matchups would be. otherwise, Marquez’s ring-legacy is “Champion of HIS Decade” and better than Pacquiao*. it’s a beautiful thing to see . . . Viva Marquez!
