The long awaited and long overdue showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally took place this May. It shattered all boxing PPV records and was the biggest fight of all time, even though the fight itself fell short of expectations. Apparently boxing is trying to capitalize and build on the success of that blockbuster event. In fact, the later part of 2015 will feature 4 more PPV cards, including three high profile matches.

The first of these matches takes place this Saturday, August 29, when Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga square off in a rematch from several years ago. Next on the list is the bout between P4P King Floyd Mayweather Jr and Andre Berto, which takes place on September 12. Following that comes a middleweight unification bout on October 17 featuring Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux. And capping off the year’s PPV bonanza is a middleweight championship contest between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez.

Boxing is becoming an expensive sport for US fans. If you were a fan who wanted to purchase all of these PPV cards, it would cost a good amount of money. Both Mayweather-Berto and Cotto-Canelo will likely be around $75 for high definition broadcasts, and Golovkin-Lemieux and Mosley-Mayorga II will probably be in the $50-60 range. When you add in the fact that Mayweather-Pacquiao was $100, that comes out to around $370 USD – which seems like an awful lot of money for fans of the sweet science to be expected to shell out simply to tune in and watch a mere 5 cards on the year for a sport that they love.

This edition of Rummy’s Corner explores these upcoming PPV events and tries to evaluate whether or not these showcase are worth the cost. In addition, this episode also touches on Sergey Kovalev’s potential as a PPV star.
