Capital Punishment – Main Event Review: Mitchell destroys Estrada in 8

Kevin Mitchell stormed into the mandatory position for Jorge Linares’ WBC lightweight title tonight with a sensational 8 round demolition of Daniel Estrada.

From the first punch until the last Mitchell, now 39-2 (29KO’s), was punch perfect as he completely dismantled a credible opponent in a career best showing.

Estrada, who now moves to 32-4 (24KO’s), looked surprised from the first exchange in the face of the superior speed of thought and movement from the Londoner who beat the Mexican to the punch on every occasion. Mitchell stops Estrada

Kevin Mitchell took a huge step towards a shot at a World title fight with a first-class display against Mexican Daniel Estrada to land the Vacant WBC Silver Lightweight title with an eighth-round stoppage at London’s O2 Arena.

Capital Punishment – Preview

In the wake of Anthony Joshua’s unfortunate back injury, Kevin Mitchell takes centre stage as Capital Punishment rolls into London’s O2 Arena, this coming Saturday.

Dagenham-born Mitchell faces Mexican Daniel Estrada for the vacant WBC Silver lightweight and a guaranteed shot at Jorge Linares’ recently acquired WBC strap.

Mitchell meets Estrada at The O2 live on Sky Sports, with the Mexican gunning for a second shot at the belt he fought for in August against former champion Omar Figueroa. Maduma motivated by underdog role vs. Mitchell this Saturday in UK

MONTREAL (May 26, 2013) – Undefeated world lightweight contender Ghislain “Mani” Maduma (16-0, 10 KOs) has embraced the underdog role for this Saturday’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) title eliminator fight against hometown favorite “Mighty” Kevin Mitchell (37-2, 27 KOs) on the Matchroom Boxing-promoted Carl Froch-George Groves card at famed Wembley Stadium in London.

The 29-year-old Maduma, world rated by the World Boxing Council (WBC) at No. 3 and No. 4 by the IBF, broke his successful Montreal training camp last Friday and headed to Great Britain to fight IBF No. 5-ranked Mitchell for the right to become the mandatory challenger for IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez.

“We had a very, very good training camp to prepare for this big fight,” Maduma said before departing for London. “I’m excited to be fighting in this big event.” Continue reading
