After more than 30 years as a benefactor, a sponsor and a promoter in the fight game, Thinus Strydom knows a thing or two about boxing, and heavyweights in particular.

He has relied on ‘gut feel’ when identifying future world champs and recently that famed feeling returned when he set eyes on a 23-year-old heavyweight boxer, Ruann Visser, who has an 16-bout win record, all by knock-out, in as many fights as an amateur. Boxing Results From South Africa

The lack of a knock-out punch put paid to any chance South Africa’s Evans ‘Mamba’ Mbamba and Mexico’s Mario ‘Maca’ Briones may have had of claiming the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior featherweight title in the headline bout on the World Sport Promotions bill at Graceland on Saturday night. WBA Pan African super bantamweight champion Tshifiwe ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai has been replaced by Evans Mbamba in the headline bout on the Chesanyama bill on Saturday, 29 June, at Graceland Casino, Secunda.The celebrated Limpopo boxer Munyai who recently won the WBA Pan African super bantamweight title has been medically advised to lay off for six weeks, and has been forced to withdraw from the 29 June event at the Secunda casino and gaming venue.
