Always a confident fighter, Chisora, the younger man by four years, says he is a natural heavyweight whereas Haye is merely a cruiserweight; one who doesn’t do his roadwork at that.
Interestingly, Chisora brought up one of Haye’s cruiserweight fights when predicting what he plans to do to “The Hayemaker” on July 14th. The only time in his pro career he has been stopped was back in 2004, when Haye was stunned by 200-pounder Carl Thompson, and Chisora says he will do a similar job on Haye, only worse.
The mighty Wladimir Klitschko was unable to stop Haye in that much-hyped clash last summer (Chisora says Wladimir “played with Haye”) and if Chisora can make good on his boast he will have made some statement – and he will have bagged himself some serious bragging rights..
But can Chisora, a fair puncher at best, put Haye away? In terms of chin and stamina, I’d give the edge to the younger man; in terms of speed and raw power, I put a tick in the box of Haye.
Haye, with that impressive amateur pedigree, is also the more proven boxer. I can see Haye boxing and moving, up on his toes, as he looks to potshot his way to a points win. That sure sounds like a plan, but can Chisora force Haye out of his game-plan and make it a rough, tough stamina-testing fight?
Things will certainly get very interesting if Haye runs out of gas on the night of July 14th – the way he did that night against “The Cat” some eight years ago!
