by Qasim Sharif: As more and more revelations are surfacing about the Lamont Peterson drug scandal and the concrete fact that the fight dubbed No Doubt has been officially called off, what can we expect in the next couple of days. One thing for sure is that Khan as he did after the fight will not let this rest easily. As all fight fans are aware he was adamant he had been robbed by the referee, he then established another element which was not quite cleared up about ” the man in the hat”. And now we have learned that Lamont failed sample A and B of his tests, the script looks like its come straight out of a movie scene.
Ultimately Khan either gets his belts back and the Washington commission rule the previous monumental clash between the two a no contest,or the belts get vacated and a new opponent is selected for Khan.
But the question is who? Now we all know that irrelevant of perception Khan trains hard, often away from the comfort of family and close ones, in a complete different country even. I’m sure Amir will still want to put on a show for all the fans that have been let down..
Does he go for Marcos Maidana again or Zab Judah, both who have expressed the desire for a rematch? Or does he go for the newly crowned WBC champion Danny Garcia and have a mega unification clash? A unification bout would still generate interest if this was to go ahead as both are regarded as the best light welterweights in the division. He could also go for morales who will crave an opportunity for another chance at the big time.
Peterson on the the other hand earned himself a new army of fans and also a great deal of respect for the rags to riches story of his life. He earned more respect in one night than his whole career. Now all that appears to be in tatters as does his career. In my personal opinion he has lost all credibility and will find it hard to regain any recognition in his career.
All we can now do is wait and see what the next chapter brings us.
