Ryan Walsh to fight on 4/2

Hot prospect Ryan Walsh is aiming to follow twin brother Liam into championship reckoning later this year.

The Cromer star has his 12th pro contest at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on April 2.

John Murray headlines in a defence of his European lightweight title against tough Spaniard Karim El Ouazghari, live on Sky Sports 1HD.

Walsh will feature in an eight-round contest against Redcar’s Gavin Reid, and aims to add another belt to the family trophy cabinet.
Twin brother Liam is the current Commonwealth super-featherweight champion, and successfully defended his title against John Kays on Saturday.

Ryan, 24, has shown similarly impressive form in his 11 fights to date with four stoppages.

He has mainly fought around featherweight, and has four stoppages, including two in the first round.

“Liam getting his title has been a boost to the whole family,” said Ryan, whose other brother Michael is also unbeaten in the super-bantamweight ranks.

“Being twins, we’ve always tended to follow in each other footsteps, so I hope there is a belt around the corner for me.

“I’m not sure if twins have ever held major belts at the same time before, but if they have, there can’t have been too many!

“I’ll fight anyone in the UK at the moment if it means me getting the chance of a belt.

“Obviously featherweight and super-featherweight are pretty competitive in the UK right now, but I reckon I can hold my own.

“I can’t wait to fight at York Hall on April 2 because the atmosphere is always pretty special there.

“I’ve had a few fights there now and I always get a lot of fans down supporting me.

“I’d love a title fight there by the end of the year.”
