Serious questions have been raised after a shocking ending in which Paul Briggs failed to beat the count after an apparent grazing punch from Danny Green sent him to the canvas in the first round of their IBO Championship bout. The President of the IBO, Ed Levine has demanded a complete and thorough investigation of this fight by all authorities in Australia to get those answers. “Boxing can not stand another black eye” said Levine. “We need and expect answers to some very serious allegations concerning the questionable ending of this fight”..
Bronco McKart Fights For UBO World Championship
Former WBO and IBA world champion Bronco “Superman” McKart (52-9-1, 31 KOs) will be going for his third world title on September 18 in his hometown of Monroe, Michigan, where he will take on an opponent to be announced for the vacant UBO World Middleweight title.
A true veteran of the game, McKart made his professional debut in 1992 and won the Michigan State and WBC International light middleweight titles on his way to his first shot at a world championship in 1996 where he stopped Santos Cardona from Puerto Rico to lift the WBO crown.
McKart lost the WBO title to future Hall-Of-Famer Winky Wright, but it was a close call and Wright only narrowly escaped with a split decision. After four consecutive victories McKart found himself in position to win his second world title the following year, and once again he succeeded when he clearly outpointed Eric Holland to win the IBA title.
He successfully defended the IBA belt against Ronald Weaver, and in 2000 he finally secured a long-awaited rematch with Wright, who this time won an uncontroversial unanimous decision. The pair would fight a third and final time two years later, this time for the IBF World title that Wright had won after surprisingly loosing the WBO version to Harry Simon in South Africa. Wright won again when McKart was disqualified for excessive low blows.
In 2004 McKart challenged for the WBA world championship at “The Mecca of Boxing”, Madison Square Garden in New York, but came up short and lost a decision to undefeated champion Travis Simms. After that fight, McKart decided to move up to middleweight in search for his third world title. After twelve years and twelve title bouts at 154 Lbs., six of those for world championships, victories over top class names such as Aaron Davis, Santos Cardona, Glenwood Brown, Ronald Weaver, Jason Papillion, Michael Lerma and Alex Bunema, it was time to look for new challenges at a higher weight.
Despite mixed results, McKart has established that he can compete at world class level at 160 Lbs. A victory over Enrique Ornelas, where he captured the NABF championship, a draw with fellow former world champion Raul Marquez and competitive defeats against Kelly Pavlik and Roman Karmazin are testaments to this fact. This past February, McKart won an Inter-Continental title by outclassing tough Columbian Jose Berrio, and he is now ready to fight for the UBO world title in his quest to become a three time, two-division world champion on September 18.
HALL TO BATTLE POWER IN REMATCH FOR BRITISH BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE ON GFL

First on Friday night in England, Stuart Hall will battle Martin Power for the British Bantamweight title in a rematch of a great fight that occurred just ten months ago.

In the first fight, Hall came back to stop Power in eight rounds, despite suffering a cut on his head in the very first round.
Hall has a record of 8-0-1 with four knockouts and won the British title with an eighth round stoppage over the much more experienced Ian Napa on June 4th.
Power has a record of 21-5 with nine knockouts and is a former British Bantamweight champion himself.
Power won his first sixteen fights before winning the British crown with a twelve round unanimous decision over Dale Robinson (17-1) on May 20, 2005.
Power defended the belt twice, including a win over Napa before stepping up and being stopped in nine by Tshifhiwa Munyai for the vacant Commonwealth title. Seven months later, Munyai stopped Power in four in the rematch.
Despite the losses, Power still had British title but that was short lived as Napa came back to take a twelve round unanimous decision to claim the British title.
After losing to Hall, Power won his last bout when he stopped Matthew Edmonds (10-3) on December 11th in five rounds.
In the ten round co-feature, Dean Harrison will battle Nigel Wright for the vacant English Jr. Welterweight title.
Harrison has a record of 16-3 with five knockouts and will be fighting for the fourth time with a belt on the line.
After winning his first twelve bouts, Harrison lost in a bid to win the English Light Welterweight title to Scott Haywood when he lost a decision by one point.
After two more wins, Harrison was stopped in four rounds by Paul McCloskey (18-0) in an attempt to win the British Jr. Welterweight title.
This past March 14th, Harrison captured the Midlands Jr. Welterweight title with a first round knockout over Ben Lawler.
Wright has a record of 21-6 with nine knockouts. He is no stranger to championship fights himself as this will be his ninth fight for a belt.
After going 12-1 in his first thirteen bouts, Wright won the English Light Welterweight title with a seventh round stoppage over Dean Hickman in 2005. He defended that belt twice before challenging for the British title and dropping a unanimous decision to Lenny Daws.
He reclaimed the English Light Welterweight title with decision over Gary Reid and retained it with a draw with Daws in the rematch.
In his last two title opportunities, Wright challenged the undefeated Ajose Olusgun (21-0 & 26-0) twice for the Commonwealth title before losing close hotly contested decisions. In his last bout, Wright scored an eight round decision over former world champion, Alex Arthur (27-2) on December 5th in New Castle.
Another exciting bout featuring 2008 Olympic Bronze Medal winner, Tony Jeffries (8-0, 5 KO’s) will battle Michael Banbula (10-25-3) in a Light Heavyweight bout scheduled for eight rounds.
Golden Girl Boxing at Santa Ana Star Casino!
Looks like boxing is back at Santa Ana Star Casino in Bernalillo, N.M. Tuesday July 20, at a press conference, Golden Girl Promotions and Eagle Boxing unveiled a dynamite card to take place on August. 14. In the main event, undefeated Four Corners fighter Thaddine Swift-Eagle Johnson (5-0, 5 KOs) will face Mexico’s Karina Hernandez (6-3-1, 4 KOs) for a handful of featherweight titles, the WIBA and GBU belts being the most prominent. In the co-main event, Albuquerque’s Victoria Cisneros (5-9-2, 1 KO) will get another chance at prominence when she takes on almost-former-Holly-Holm-opponent, Melissa Hernandez (12-2-2, 4 KOs), of Bronx, New York for the WIBC light weight title.
The undercard is stacked with local talent. Duke City lightweight Fidel “The Atrisco Kid” Maldonado (3-0, 3 KOs), seen by many as the top prospect in N.M., will take on Colorado’s Travis Gurule (0-1) in a scheduled four-rounder ; welterweight Josh “Pitbull” Torres (4-1-1, 3 KOs), also of Albuquerque, will go four with Albuquerque hard luck kid, Michael Coca-Gallegos (0-6); Staging yet another comeback, Santa Fe’s Bryan Garcia (7-18, 2 KOs) will move way up to lightweight to fight former Taos boxer Marcos Herrera (5-1-1, 1 KO), now fighting out of Arvada, Colorado; Albuquerque light-heavyweight Timmy Means (0-1) takes on Michael Montoya Jr. (3-2-1, 2 KOs), of Colorado Springs; and, in the opener, Albuquerque bantam Jazzma Hogue (0-0-1) challenges Michele Montalbano (0-1), of Colorado.
