Eugene Carnachan: Challenge Stadium, Perth, Western Australia. On the under card Shane Cameron 24-2 boxed methodically in racking up a unanimous points decision win over Australian Daniel Ammann 19-4. Cameron showed a more technical approach then what we are used to seeing in out hustling Ammann the south paw.
Cameron is now looking to campaign and fight for a world title at Cruiser weight..
In Cameron’s last outing against John Hopoate he tipped the scales at 231 pounds. For this fight both camps agreed to fight at a 205 pound catch; some 4 ½ pounds over the cruiser limit.
The very awkward Ammann had his moments but they were few and far between.
Cameron appears to have changed tact in the way he boxes; now employing more lateral movement and too picking his spots as opposed to his aggressive volume punching style of old.
“I certainly needed the rounds. Next time it will be different,” stated the 32 year old Cameron.
“I’m just getting the body used to it (fighting at a lower weight)…I didn’t find the spark tonight”
This was Cameron’s first outing with Australian trainer Barry Michaels. Cameron is now based out of Melbourne, Australia having relocated from Auckland, New Zealand after his second round KO loss to David Tua.
Cameron now wants the winner of Green V Briggs fight. However should this fight transpire between either or it will be interesting to see how it plays out given Green weighed in at 185 pounds and Briggs at 191 pounds. Both fighters well under the 200 pound Cruiser weight limit.

Ring walk – Briggs looks calm and relaxed. Almost as if he’s taking a stroll in the park.
Danny Green comes into the Men at Work song “I come from a land down under”. His home town Perth crowd go wild at the sight of their man.
Paul Briggs looks soft around the mid-riff! He might be about to have a fork put in him if lack of conditioning is indicative. Definitely looks underdone.
Danny Green looks trim. Like he should.

Bell rings, let’s go!
Briggs come out to meet Green.
Briggs goes down! From what? Didn’t even see the shot. Ref is counting…9…10…it’s over!
Replays show it to be a jab to the forehead.
I called it! It wasn’t quite a fork but a left jab to his forehead.
What a shame! Not good to see a warrior like Briggs go out like this.
Did he throw the towel in or was there a reoccurrence of his neurological problems?
POST FIGHT WRAP –
Paul Briggs came to the fight with only a six week window to get prepared for a fight with a guy known for his massive gym ethic. Given Green has fought three times in the last year it was a lofty ask at best given Briggs on the other hand hadn’t fought since 2007.
In 2007 Briggs retired with well known and reported neurological problems. The reason the fight was relocated from Sydney to Perth was the New South Wales commission wouldn’t commission the contest.
Perhaps the New South Wales commission got it right and Briggs should never have fought. On the face value that would appear to be the case. In 2005 and 2006 Briggs fought two wars with the then undefeated Thomaz Adamek.
Both fights were out and out wars and majority decision losses for Briggs.
Both of these fights with Adamek defined Briggs as a warrior of the highest ilk. So to see him go out like this seems totally uncharacteristic of a man known for his intestinal fortitude and fighting valor.
Danny Green takes the microphone and has to yell to the crowd to shut up “that’s there is no one more pissed off more them him”. He continues to apologize profusely. Green was the promoter of this card. For his home town crowd to see the main attraction win in these circumstances within 30 seconds is a bitter pill for all concerned.
Green continues his microphone vitriol referring to Briggs as a “dog” and that “he’s not getting paid”.
Until Green knows the reason as to why Briggs went down from what looked like a relatively innocuous shot he should be tempered. He as the fighter and promoter signed to both promote and fight a guy who had historical neurological issues.
Briggs was cleared by doctors to take this fight however after that outcome questions will surely be asked.
Shane Cameron gets into the ring and challenges Danny Green! He then awaits an answer from Green.
Green can’t even bring himself to accept Cameron’s challenge he is so peeved. Wait! Wait!…in the age old tradition of boxing the commentators of the fight accept the challenge for Danny Green!Wait there is more! The commentator who accepts the fight is Barry Michaels! None other then the trainer of Shane Cameron.
Good! Now we’ve got that established it should be a better contest then what we have just witnessed.
