By Harold Kupelle: World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight champion Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KOs) made it look easy tonight in completely dominating a badly over-matched Allan Green (29-2, 20 KO’s) in a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision at the Oracle Arena, in Oakland, California. The final judges’ scores were 120-108, 120-108 and 120-108. Green was out of his class from the beginning, backed up to the ropes and pounded to the midsection. For some reason, Green just couldn’t pull the trigger on his punches. It was like a replay of his inept performance against Edison Miranda three years, only worse because Ward stayed on top of Green the entire bout and pounded him at will. Green spent much of the time trying to clinch and grab to try and prevent Ward from punching him so much. It didn’t hardly work. Ward continued pound the stuffing out of Green round after round without stop..
The fight quickly got out of hand early, as Green looked nothing like an A class fighter as he just took shots and didn’t fire back any. In looking at how bad Green performed, it was no surprise why he wasn’t picked by Showtime at the start of the Super Six tournament. I can only imagine what will happen to Green in his next fight of the tournament against Mikkel Kessler. We never really did get a chance to see Green’s big power, because he just wouldn’t let his hands go in the fight.
He tended to wait too long for the exact perfect moment to throw his shots and by the time he would make up his mind to throw, Ward had moved. This fight was much more one-sided than Ward’s win over Kessler in his last fight, and it’s got to be the most one-sided of the tournament thus far.
