Dundee, Duva and Sugar to Attend HOF Weekend

CANASTOTA, NY –APRIL 2010 – The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today trainers Angelo Dundee and Lou Duva will attend festivities planned for the 21st Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 10-13th. “Angelo Dundee and Lou Duva are two legendary figures in boxing history,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “They have trained some of boxing’s top fighters and their knowledge of the many facets of the sport is remarkable. Fans will love the opportunity to visit with them..”

Dundee has guided 15 world champions including Hall of Famers Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Sugar Ramos, Jose Napoles, Luis Rodriguez, Willie Pastrano and Canastota’s Carmen Basilio. He also prepared Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe for his role in the 2005 boxing film Cinderella Man. In 1992 Dundee was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Duva is one of boxing’s top managers and trainers. He has worked with such world champions as Mark Breland, Evander Holyfield, Bobby Czyz, Livingstone Bramble, Meldrick Taylor, Michael Moorer, Arturo Gatti and Hall of Famer Pernell Whitaker. He is now the president of the promotional company Duva Boxing. In 1998 Duva was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

The June 10-13th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including a banquet, parade, golf tournament, cocktail party and the official induction ceremony honoring the Class of 2010. Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 13th are light flyweight champion Jung-Koo Chang (South Korea), featherweight champion Danny “Little Red” Lopez (USA), manager Shelly Finkel (USA), referee / commissioner Larry Hazzard (USA), promoter Wilfried Sauerland (Germany), matchmaker Bruce Trampler (USA) and journalist Ed Schuyler (USA). Posthumous inductees will also be honored.

Over 40 boxing stars are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities. In addition to Dundee and Duva, other stars slated to appear include Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor, Carmen Basilio, Tony DeMarco, Ken Norton, Nino Bevenuti, Leon Spinks, Gerry Cooney and many others.

Bert Sugar To Attend Boxing HOF Weekend

CANASTOTA, NY –APRIL 13, 2010 – The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today Hall of Fame writer / historian Bert Sugar will attend festivities planned for the 21st Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 10-13th. “Bert Sugar is a fantastic writer and possesses a vast knowledge of the history of boxing,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We’re excited about welcoming him back to Canastota.”

One of the most recognizable figures in boxing, with his trademark fedora and cigar, Sugar has been a fixture at ringside for over three decades. He has been editor of The Ring and Boxing Illustrated and authored over 50 books, including The Great Fights and The 100 Greatest Boxers of All Time. He has also appeared in several motion pictures including Rocky Balboa, Play it to the Bone, Night and the City and The Great White Hype. In 2005, Sugar was elected into the Hall of Fame.
