22 year old Werrington heavyweight Alex ‘El Toro’ has been selected to take part in the inaugural “Prizefighter Series” scheduled for York Hall, Bethnal Green on 11th April. Promoted by Matchroom Sports the event will be televised live by Sky Sports. The ‘Prizefighter Series’, brainchild of sports impresario Barry Hearn, will involve eight of the UK’s heavyweights in a knockout series with the winner securing prize money of £25,000..
A draw will be held prior to the competition in order to determine the match-ups for the first round and each contest will consist of three three minute rounds. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will all be held on the same evening. In the event that contests go the distance three BBBofC appointed judges will decide the winner.
Alex, now with three wins from three pro starts under his belt, is relishing the chance.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me,” said Alex. “The event will be televised live in the UK and highlights will be shown all around the planet so it will give me great exposure. It’s important therefore that I give a good account of myself and that’s exactly what I intend to do.”
“My coach, Les Tharme, and the rest of the team at Impact Boxing have helped to get me into great condition and I’m now fitter than ever. My sponsors, Bickerton Brothers of Caverswall, are playing their part too; they are supplying me with all the protein that I need free of charge. I’m eating steak almost every night.”
“There are some good heavyweights involved in the competition and it’s going to be a challenge if I’m to win it but I’ll be fully prepared and Les has come up with a strategy that I think will stand me in good stead. Whether I win it or not I can guarantee that I’ll put on a good show.”
Before travelling to Bethnal Green, Ibbs has the small matter of dealing with erstwhile adversary David Ingleby at Stoke’s Kings Hall on 1st March. An improving Ingleby, unbeaten in his last two fights, will come to Stoke seeking revenge for a six round points defeat at the hands of Ibbs last May. Coming off the back of a knockout victory, Morecambe’s Ingleby will fancy his chances against novice Ibbs and a scintillating contest should ensue.
Tickets for Ibbs V Ingleby and six other professional contests are available from Impact Boxing on 0845 156 7168 or by visiting www.impactboxing.com
