Virchis can’t wait to face Gomez / ARENA strikes twice in March

18.02.08 – Vladimir Virchis informed the local press in Ukraine today that he is in best physical condition and impatiently waiting for his long expected WBC elimination bout against “The Black Panther” Juan Carlos Gomez..

Virchis stated that he is a little worried about the indecisiveness of his promoter Spotlight/Universum regarding the date for the fight. So far he hasn’t been informed by his promoter when and where the fight against Gomez should take place.

“The Hunter” wants to be sure that the new date won’t be announced on short notice again without talking to him like Universum’s first proposal to hold the fight on March 8th.

Virchis is concerned because there are less than two months left until the end of the new period allotted by the WBC (April 14th). Eight weeks is exactly the time he needs to prepare for a fight of this importance against a tough opponent like Gomez so he hopes that a new date for the fight will be announced soon.

Virchis expressed high esteem for the WBC and President Jose Sulaiman as he considers the WBC to be the most important sanctioning body in professional boxing. He will do whatever it takes to become WBC world heavyweight champion which is the most important title in professional boxing to him and he is very grateful for the chance to fight an elimination bout for this title.

Virchis also told the Ukrainian press about a dream he recently had. In his dream he was a hunter chasing a black panther. He grabbed the panther by the throat with one hand and tore off his tail with the other hand. “The Hunter” is convinced that this is a good omen for his fight and he is convinced that he will beat Gomez.

Ahmet Öner sends his “star fighters” into the ring twice in March

Ahmet Öner sends his “star fighters” into the ring twice in March. The whole ARENA team – except for Juan Carlos Gomez (who is preparing for his WBC elimination bout against Vladimir Virchis in L.A.), Yuriorkis Gamboa and Yan Barthelemy (who will be fighting in Fort Lauderdale on February 22nd) – will be in action at the two shows on March 11th in Halle (Saale) and March 14th in Munich.

Local hero Steffen Kretschmann will be the main attraction in Halle along with former World heavyweight champion Herbie Hide, Rüdiger May and cruiserweight prospect Tino Groß.

Only three days later ARENA invades Munich with the comeback fight of three-time WBC super middleweight champion Markus Beyer after one and a half years of ring absence. Also on the card: ARENA’s heavy Olympic gold medallist Odlanier Solis and former European champion Sinan Samil Sam.
