In keeping with the Mexican vs. Puerto Rican theme for “PRIDE”, an evening of world class professional boxing, Fernando Trejo and Juan Ramon Cruz will battle in the ten round lightweight main event on Friday, September 14th at Chicago’s Congress Theater, it was announced today by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions..
Trejo of Mexico City, Mexico brings a record of 29-12-4 (18KO’s) into the battle against Juan Ramon Cruz, 15-3-1 (11KO’s) of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Said Pesoli, “It’s a special night for Chicago boxing fans with the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico matchups in the main and co-main. Fernando Trejo is a terrific fighter, always in action packed fights. He beat Jose Armando Santa Cruz two years ago in an outstanding battle that SOLO BOXEO televised.
I’ve seen Juan Cruz fight a few of times, once on TV and twice in Las Vegas and he’s a very tough kid. He’s from the same training camp as Miguel Cotto and this should be an excellent battle.”
The co-main event features another battle for Mexican/Puerto Rican pride between Chicago based fighters as Mexican Francisco Rodriguez will face Puerto Rican Ivan Rodriguez in the eight round super bantamweight bout.
