Nikolai Valuev hits Berlin for sparring – Valuev/McCline

Nikolai Valuev has hit Berlin to begin sparring ahead of next month´s clash with fellow giant Jameel McCline. The unbeaten WBA champion (45-0, 33 KOs) yesterday arrived from St. Petersburg where coach Manuel Gabrielian had put him through tough training sessions in the last couple of weeks. “I´m in great shape,” said the Russian Giant. “I´ve trained very hard in St. Petersburg. After doing all the basic work-outs in Russia I am now ready to start sparring in Berlin.”

Almost 600 pounds will be in the ring when Valuev, the tallest (7ft) and biggest (330 pounds) champion of all time, battles it out with McCline (6`6, 265). “He is different from all the opponents I have faced in my career,” stated Valuev. “It will be a whole new experience. But I will be prepared for it.” The biggest bout in the history of boxing will also be the first-ever heavyweight championship fight staged in Switzerland, with Basle hosting the event on January 20.

Until then, Valuev is determined to keep his imposing body in shape. Even though his family is expected to join him in Berlin for the New Year festivities, he will keep working hard in the gym. “I will definitely be sparring on New Year´s Day,” he said.
