Sycuan Ringside Promotions Adds Another Champion

04.10.06 – Sycuan Ringside Promotions added its fifth world champion in its eight-boxer stable when Celestino “The Towering Inferno” Caballero captured the World Boxing Association super bantamweight title. The hard-hitting, 6-foot-1 1/2-inch Caballero stopped Somsak Sithchatchawal by technical knockout, flooring him three times in the third round in Thailand Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Caballero, a southpaw from Colon, Panama, has a record of 25-2 with 18 knockouts.

Included is a win over current World Boxing Organization junior featherweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon, who Caballero beat by 12-round unanimous decision by nine, seven and three points on the judges’ scorecards during February of 2005 in Hollywood, Calif.

Caballero, who’s co-promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions and Seminole Warriors Boxing, qualified for the title bout when he halted Roberto Bonilla in the seventh round during February in Panama to capture the WBA super bantamweight interim championship.

Caballero joins World Boxing Council welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir, WBO super lightweight champion Joan Guzman, WBA super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez and International Boxing Federation lightweight interim champion Julio Diaz as world champs in Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ stable.

“Sycuan Ringside Promotions now has the two most exciting boxers in the 122-pound division in Celestino and Israel Vazquez,” said Glenn Quiroga, president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

“Both Sycuan Ringside Promotions and Seminole Warriors Boxing have a real gem in Caballero,” said Scott Woodworth, vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions. “It’s not often you find a fighter who’s not only physically unique for a weight division but can produce at this level in the ring as well.”

Sycuan Ringside Promotions, which has made dramatic strides since its inception during 2004, is led by Quiroga; Willie Tucker, executive vice president; and Woodworth.
