Oliver – Carrera Headline October 28 Mohegan Sun Fight Night!

03.10.06 – Brocton, MA – Cappiello Promotions presents another exciting installment of its Mohegan Sun Fight Night Series Saturday, October 28, from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. The 12-round main event pits Hartford, Connecticut’s Mike “Machine” Oliver against California’s Adam “El Torito” Carrera for the vacant USBA Junior Featherweight Championship. Oliver, ranked #4 by the USBA, looks to maintain his unbleamished professional record (16-0, 7 KO’s) when he takes on the USBA #3 ranked Carrera (18-1, 8 KO’s) in what will be the biggest fight, thus far, in either fighter’s career.

“This is going to be a tremendous fight,” states promoter Rich Cappiello! ” You have the #3 and #4 ranked fighters in the USBA taking each other on, and the #1 and #2 spots are vacant, as is the title. So, you basically have the two best junior featherweights in the country fighting for the USBA title. And maybe even more importantly, is the likely-hood that the winner will land a top-ten ranking in the world, and possibly a world title shot!”

For Oliver, a tremendous amateur with over 3 hundred bouts, this will be his sixth bout of 2006, and his eleventh since April 2005. His amateur experience and increased professional activity have quickly made him a force to be reckoned with in the junior-featherweight division. ” I’ve said all along that Mike has the potential to be a world champ, and this is just another step in that quest. Like all his fights leading up to this one, he has to win to advance to the next level. This is by far the biggest fight of his life, for both guys. They are so evenly matched, #3 and #4, that says it all. This is either fighter’s fight to win.

Carrera, a native of Cathedral City, California enters the evening riding an eight fight win streak, to include NABF and WBC Fecarbox titles, and an eight round shut out win over Angel Mata to avenge the only loss on his professional record.

In a 4-round undercard attraction, undefeated featherweight prospect Dat Nguyen (4-0, 2 KO’s) takes on Worcester, Massachusetts’ Edwin Rosado (1-1, 1 KO). Born in Vietnam, Nguyen now lives in Maui, Hawaii, and trains in Vero Beach, Florida with famed trainer Buddy McGirt. Nguyen is one of the newest and brightest fighters in the Cappiello Promotions stable.
