Sharon “Wild Thing” Anyos defends her WBC Tiltle

21.09.06 – On 22 September Sharon ‘Wild Thing’ Anyos will defend her WBC World Featherweight boxing title against Dutchwoman Esther Shouten. In what promises to be an action-packed night Anyos will take on third-ranked Schouten at Southport Sharks, on the Gold Coast. Anyos says, “My training and focus has been so strong for this fight and I’m counting the days till I meet with Esther Schouten. I’ve studied some of Esther’s fights and she is a very tough opponent who never gives up. You can’t get to top world ranking without knocking over some strong soldiers so that’s going to make for two very determined women centre ring on September 22.”

Paul Gale, from Sea-FM, will take the mike for a knock-out night while an explosive under-card of fresh talent in four amateur bouts, a celebrity fight for charity, and comedian Rash Ryder will round out a great night of entertainment.

Special guests include Kostya Tszyu, the undisputed Super Lightweight champion of the world, while a film crew from the ABC’s Australian Story will also be there. The crew is currently working on a program about Anyos that is expected to air before the end of September.

Fans will also have a chance to see how the fighters are shaping up when they strip off and step on the scales at the public weigh-in, to be held at the Rose and Crown in the Raptis Plaza, Surfers Paradise, at 7pm sharp on Thursday 21 September.

Anyos’ manager, Tony Samuels, says: “Sharon is in peak physical condition to defend her World Featherweight title, which she won from Marcela Acuna of Argentina last year at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“Acuna was a tough opponent and Sharon broke her finger in the first round but she just didn’t give up. She came out on top and it’s made her even hungrier to defend her world title on the 22
.
“Not many people would have the guts to step into the ring with her right now. She’s really living up to her fight name of Wild Thing.”

The stats back up the likelihood of a good spectacle: From 15 fights Anyos has won 12 (three TKO) and lost three. Schouten has 22 fights under her belt, with 18 wins (nine TKO) three losses and one draw.

Anyos’ career highlights include: Former IBA WIBA and WBL featherweight world champion Former OBA juniorwelterweight title Former undefeated super lightweight division (kickboxing) Former ISKA super welterweight champion (kickboxing).

As a keen supporter of charities, Sharon also aims to raise funds for medical research on the night.
