28.05.06 – By: Eric Duran @ Ringside – Zef Ramirez and Jewboy Promotions put on an exciting show last night in Rocky Ford, Colorado as an estimated 800 fans showed to support their past and present fighters. And boy were they treated to a night of fireworks Rocky Ford fans witnessed one hell of a fight between David Medina of Junction City, Kansas and Manny Castillo of East Los Angelas, as they battled for the GBU Middleweight Title..

Castillo came out in round and quickly went to the body, digging Medina with thunderous left hooks. Medina didn’t back down returing fire onto the game Castillo. In round 2, a clash of heads almost derailed what would turnout be a slugfest, opening a slight cut over the eye of Medina and a gash on the top of the head of Castillo. Rounds 3 and 4 were classic phone booth fighting, both fighters willing to take two to give one, with the action swinging both ways. The tides turned a little in round 5 when Medina caught Castillo with a perfectly timed straight right, putting the tough vato on the seat of pants. Castillo was able to continue and an aggressive Medina did all he could to try and stop Castillo. Round 6 was another good round for Medina as Castillo was still on shaky legs following the fifth round, but a game Castillo fought off countless attacks from Medina. Rounds 7 and 8 went back to non-stop action from both fighters as they viciously put together combinations along the ropes. At the end of the fight, all three judges saw the fight for Medina. With the victory, Medina improves to 10-1 5ko, while Castillo drops to 13-13-2. This was Medina’s first defense of his GBU Middleweight Title

In the co-main event, Marvin “Much 2 Much” continued his march towards the top of the Jr. Welterweight division, decisioning a game Julian Romero over 6 rounds. Cordova blasted Romero with 3 and 4 punch combination throughout the bout but a rugged Romero held his ground. In round 3, Cordova drilled Romero with a step around left hook that sent Romero tumbling across the ring and onto his back. Rounds 4 through 6 were all Cordova as Romero simply was out to just survive. With the win, Cordova improves to 10-0 6ko while Romero drops to 7-48-2. Cordova was scheduled to fight on Gary Shaw’s Showtime card next Friday in California but a slight fracture in his left wrist will not allow him to participate in that fight.

In the featured bout of the night, Chantell Cordova continued her winning ways as a pro, defeating the tough Camela Parker of Orlando, Flordia. Despite being 0-3, Parker proved to be better then her record indicated, and luckily for Cordova, she didn’t let the record fool her. Parker had her spots in the fight, but Cordova was just too fast and too skilled for her opponent. In final moments of round 4, Cordova had Parker in her track shoes, chasing down a hurt Parker and trying to finish her off. Cordova had to settle for a 4 round unanimous decision instead running her record to 3-0 2ko, while Parker drops to 0-4.

In another women bout, Salina Jordan debuted against 0-1 Jaime Myers. Jordan didn’t show much skill, but thank god for condintioning, as she was able to throw punches in bunches. Myers didn’t have an answer for it as most of the exchanges left her tired and winded. Jordan was able to win a 4 round unanimous decision on pure conditioning alone. Jordan debuts at 1-0 while Myers suffers her second career loss, now standing at 0-2.

Local fighter Eduardo Marquez debuted against rugged street fighter Ben Whitter. In the opening minutes of round 1, Whitter caught Marquez off balance with a left hook, flooring the hometown boy. After that, the rest of the round belonged to Marquez as pummeled Whitter stopping him at 2:29 of the 1st round. Marquez debuts at 1-0 while Whitter drops to 0-3.

And in the opening bout of the night, Ryan Peake had no trouble with Zack Quezada. The 6′ 2″ Peake pounded on the 5′ 7″ Quezada for 4 rounds. Round 3 easily cound have been scored a 10-8 round and there weren’t no knockdowns, as Peake dug right hands to the body of Quezada and drilled him with overhand rights. In round 4, a straight right from Peake opened up a cut along the eyebrow of Quezada sending a stream of blood shooting across press row. Moments later the referee quickly stepped in and stopped the fight at 1:29 seconds of round 4. Peake improves to 2-1 2ko while Quezada falls to 1-1
