Euro Roundup: Tue Bjorn Thomsen stabbed to death

23.04.06 – By Per Ake Persson: Danish media reports the tragic death of 33-year old ex-IBC supercruiser and Danish heavy champ Tue Bjorn Thomsen. Apparently Thomsen got into a brawl at a nightclub and someone used a knife and stabbed him to death. Thomsen´s last fight was in the fall of 2002 but he never really retired, just sort of faded away, and told this reporter last year he didn´t rule out a comeback.. He was 22-1-0-1 as a pro and as an amateur won a bronze in the 97 World championships. Before his fight against Rob Calloway (W 12) in 2001 he was trained by current WBA cruiser champ Virgil Hill and Al Larsien. Tue had done time for his part in bar-room brawls but was very well liked in the Danish boxing community. He was at the last Palle show in Copenhagen working the corner of his good friend Christian Bladt. Tue was a good fighter with a big heart but had the misfortune of being stuck between cruiser (the old limit of 190) and heavyweight.
