Dunne puts his perfect record online

30th March, 2006 – Bernard Dunne puts his perfect record on the line “online” next Monday night when he takes part in RTE Sports first ever live streaming webcast. The Dubliner is unbeaten in 19 pro fights and travels to Turin, Italy to take on tough Argentinean, Sergio Carlos Santillan..

Visitors to RTE’s website will be able to catch all the action live from 8pm with commentary from Jimmy Magee and former World Champion, Dave “Boy” McAuley. Boxing analysts Steve Collins and Mick Dowling will join Darragh Maloney in studio.

Dunne says he’s delighted that RTE have chosen his fight with Santillan to launch their online sports webcasting. “It’s an honour to get the opportunity to be part of something like this. It’s obviously a breakthrough in technology for RTE and hopefully it’s will be a real breakthrough too in my career.”

“Hopefully it’s something we’ll see more and more of in the future. It’s great news for sports fans and especially boxing fans. It’s also great for me because it means more viewers will get to see Bernard Dunne in action.”

Dunne’s fights to date have been pulling in approximately a quarter of a million viewers each time and RTE Sport were keen to showcase the Neilstown mans talents on their first ever live webcast.

Speaking about the coverage RTE’s Head of Sport, Glen Killane said, “This groundbreaking move indicates RTE’s willingness to embrace new technology and bring live sports coverage to the viewer in a unique way.”

“This is something that we plan on doing more and more and it’s great to have Bernard’s fight in Italy launching our sports webcasts.”

A broadband connection will be required to watch the fights but for those on a dial up connection a separate audio feed will be made available.

Deferred coverage of the entire fight can also be seen on RTÉ TWO from 11.50pm-1.05am on Monday night.
