Amir Khan Relishes Ring Return

10.08.05 – Boxing sensation Amir Khan is relishing his ring return next month following his explosive professional debut. The Olympic Silver Medallist blitzed Londoner David Bailey in only 109 seconds to mark his entrance into the paid ranks last month and now looks ahead to feature on Joe Calzaghe’s WBO Super-Middleweight championship undercard on September 10 at the Cardiff International Arena to be screened live on ITV1..

The 18-year-old hotshot from Bolton said, “I felt that my pro debut went brilliantly and I’m really excited about getting back into the ring in September and keeping busy,”

“It was a real awakening to have Bailey come flying out at me from the opening bell but I believe I handled it well and the results showed,”

“I loved the feeling of fighting without my vest and headguard for the first time and felt very comfortable in there but I know it will get harder as I progress,”

“Now that all the hype surrounding my professional debut has died down I can get to work in the gym with my trainer Oliver Harrison and iron out the amateur traits and improve with each fight,”

“We are working on slowing down the pace I fight at, planting my feet more and picking my punches carefully,”

“From my fight against Bailey, although brief, I know what to expect in the pros in the future and I’m looking forward to it.”

Calzaghe headlines the show with a record 17th defence of his title and Khan features as a special attraction on the undercard. Opponents for both boxers will be announced shortly.

The rest of the undercard features an exciting middleweight clash between Cwmbran puncher Gary Lockett and Allan Gray. Darren Morgan from Swansea and Belfast’s Martin Rogan meet in a clash of unbeaten heavyweights.

Finally, Pontypool’s unbeaten welterweight Tony Doherty, Rhondda Valley light-welter Barrie Jones, Merthyr middleweight Kerry Hope and Newbridge light-welterweight Nathan Cleverley complete the card.
