Tszyu vs. Mayweather: Power vs. Speed

10.03.05 – By Brad D. – Have you noticed lately that the fights that the public demand usually don’t happen? There are several key factors that usually prevent these big fights. Sanctioning bodies, networks, and money all prevent what we want to see from hitting the squared circle. Mayweather vs. Tszyu is the fight that needs to overcome those sometimes insurmountable barriers.. Think about this fight for a minute. Kostya Tszyu has dominated the 140 pound division for a while now. He is literally unbeatable at this point.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has proven he has incredible defense, amazing agility, and blinding speed. His punch isn’t that great at 140, but the point is, it doesn’t have to be. Speed is power, and Mayweather has that speed.

This would be an amazing fight. As I sat watching Tszyu vs. Judah, my first thoughts were, Tszyu will win by decision. He’s too slow to knock out Judah who will simply avoid all his punches, but still get caught with enough jabs to lose the fight.

Boy was I wrong. Chicken Dance extreme.

To me Tszyu looked better than ever against Sharmba Mitchell. I don’t listen to the announcers for one second. I watch the fight. Watching that fight, I saw Tszyu improve from his first fight with Mitchell. He adjusted. He adapted. This is mark of a great boxer and an incredible champion.

My brain is swarming with thoughts like, can Tszyu adjust to Mayweather? Will he catch Mayweather against the ropes and punish him to the body like he did with Mitchell to finish him?

I guess first things first, will Tszyu get past Hatton. In my opinion he will, and by brutal knock out. Hatton has not faced anyone that can hit as hard as Tszyu to both the head and the body.

Once Tszyu gets passed Hatton, I appeal to all the promoters and sanctioning bodies, and especially the fighters, make this fight happen. Great fighters are great because they fight other great fighters.

Tszyu and Mayweather, take notes from Pacquiao and Morales. Make the fight for yourself and your fans.
