Scott Harrison Gets Victor Polo

23.12.04 – WBO World Featherweight Champion Scott Harrison will defend his title against Victor Polo on Friday 28 January at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow and has promised to make him pay for missing Christmas with his son. Harrison had to make one of the biggest sacrifices of his life ahead of his fourth title defence at the Braehead Arena on Friday 28 January – to leave behind his two-year-old son Scott Junior over the festive period..

The fearsome Glaswegian believes he has made the right move though by tearing himself away from his family to prepare at Spartan-style training in the mountains of Spain.

Harrison said, “That by far is the hardest decision I have had to make leaving my little boy and family at home over Christmas and Polo is going to suffer for it,

“I speak to my son all the time though and it will especially hard on Christmas Day when he opens his presents and I’m not there to see his face light up,”

“But in boxing, to become a world champion and stay there, it takes tremendous sacrifices and I’m willing to go through that to be the best in the division and make my family secure,

“I’ve felt the hurt and pain of losing my title (to Manuel Medina) and I never want to experience that again and it is driving me to keep hold of my title and provide for my family.”

Polo, who is now based in Las Vegas, has a wealth of experience in his 40-fight career that has seen him challenge for different versions of the world title on three occasions facing Manuel Medina, Derrick Gainer and Julio Pablo Chacon. He also holds a first round victory over previous Harrison victim William Abelyan.
