Carlos Palomino joins CMXsports team

25.08.04 – Former world welterweight champion and 2004 Hall of Fame inductee CARLOS PALOMINO has signed on as the new color commentator on “CMX Boxeo de Campeones,” the weekly Latin boxing broadcast series — now into its third full month of production –presented by CMXsports and promoted by Guilty Boxing.Palomino will make his series debut This Friday August 25, LIVE from The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Palomino, inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this year, will provide the color commentary to newly elected World Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, Colonel Bob Sheridan’s blow-by-blow, on the English feed of the broadcast. Sheridan is a veteran of more than 750 world title fight broadcasts. The Spanish language feed of the broadcast features former NFL All-Pro kicker and veteran sports announcer Benny Ricardo and former five-time world champion Manuel Medina, doing the blow-by-blow and color, respectively.

Former Major League Baseball player Rich Perez, who hosts the weekly CMXsports Radio show, heard weekly Tuesday nights in Las Vegas at 8 P.M. PT in Las Vegas or via the internet at www.alltalkradio.net or www.klav1230am.com, provides the in-ring post-fight interviews. Boxing historian Bert Randolph Sugar, former editor of The Ring and Boxing Illustrated, and the author of more than 50 books, has signed on as CMXsports Senior Boxing Analyst At-Large, providing weekly columns to the CMXsports website and commentary to the broadcasts. A new Sugar column, “Sugar ‘N Spice,” runs on CMXsports.com every Friday.

Born in Mexico, Palomino, 31-4-3 (19 KOs), moved to Los Angeles at age 10 with his family in 1959. His amateur career included winning the All-Army welterweight title while serving in the U.S. Army in 1971 and 1972. He turned pro after defeating future Olympic gold medalist Sugar Ray Seales to capture the AAU Championship in 1972. Managed by Jackie McCoy, Palomino defeated nearly everyone in his path en route to winning the WBC welterweight title — knocking out defending champion John Stracey, June 22, 1976, in Wembley. Palomino successfully defended the title seven times during his two-year reign before losing it to future Hall-of-Famer Wilfredo Benitez via a 15-round split decision, January 14, 1979. A graduate of California State University at Long Beach, Palomino’s post-boxing career has been equally successful as an actor, where he has been involved in numerous motion pictures and television series. He gained an enormous amount of noteriety from his recurring role in the original Miller Lite beer TV commercial campaign of the early ’80s.

CMXsports and Guilty Boxing will produce 48 two-hour shows a year over a three-year period with two cards each month emanating from Las Vegas –The Orleans Hotel & Casino and the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino. The remaining two shows per month will be broadcast from different locations, including, southern California and Mexico. Recent shows have emanated from Las Pulgas Club in Tijuana, Mexico.
