18.07.04 – Reporting from Ringside Carlos “Stiff-jab” Kalinchuk – Photo Gallery! – In the opening bout of the evening, Mexico’s Alexis Camacho improved his record to 2-0 when he knocked out Welterweight Steve “Chaos” Verner 2:55 seconds into round one. Somebody must have told Verner that, “After you take a hard shot, all boxers make a face” because that’s about all the offense he could muster in return as Camacho blasted him with a one two over hand right combination that sent him sprawling. Verner got up but he was clearly out as referee Sam Garza waived off the fight.
The second bout featured rising Super Featherweight upstart Jason Litzau 10-0 (10 KO’s) of St. Paul Minnesota. Litzau banged from start to finish as he used Frank “The Tank” Martinez 6-7-2 (1 KO) as a punching bag. Although Martinez did fight back hard in round two to make it interesting, Litzau used his yeoman’s like work to the body and head to take Martinez apart as he sent Martinez to the canvas 3 times in round 3. The final fall was the last straw though for referee Sam Garza as he saved Martinez from any further punishment by ending the bout.
In the following bout, Heavyweight BJ Flores 8-0-1 (6 KO’s) beat John Turlington 4-3 (4 KO’s) of Oklahoma. Despite the fact that Turlington was extremely soft around the mid section, he showed some heart in round three, but it was Flores’ jab and overhand rights that determined the winner. Turlington went down in rounds 2 and then end came in round 4 when Ronnie Ralston felt he had seen enough. The official time was 2:57 of round 4.
In the final non-televised fight of the evening, Raul Martinez 2-0 (2 KO’s) demolished Lamont Lindsey with 43 seconds left in round 1. The first knockdown sent Lindsey through the ropes and on top of one of the judges (Robert Bish). The second sent Lindsey to dreamland because even though he beat the count, Lindsey was extremely wobbly and dazed as referee Ronnie Ralston waived off the fight. Martinez’s blistering hand speed and sheer power were clearly demonstrated and it’s obvious that he is being groomed to be a rising Bantamweight star for Main Events. Lindsey on the other hand needs to find a new line of work as he drops to a perfect 0-5.
