McCracken tips Froch to unify world titles

17.05.04 – Hennessy Sports team trainer Robert McCracken has backed commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch to come through his June 2nd old school showdown at the Nottingham Arena against British king Tony Dodson in style. “Carl is going to impress in this fight,” insisted McCracken.

“Dodson is a good champion who has not been underestimated in the slightest, but he is going to come up against a world class talent in the condition of his life, boxing in his hometown.

“The work Carl has been putting together in the gym has been outstanding; everything from fitness work to sparring.

“Technically, he just gets better and better. He is so advanced for someone with just 12 fights under his belt.”

‘The Cobra’s’ confidence is also sky high.

Last time out the 26-year-old completed the Championship distance for the first time, out pointing the teak tough Ghanaian Charles Adamu to claim his current crown.

“Carl smashed through a massive psychological barrier by doing those 12 rounds,” added Robert.

“Every fighter set outs with niggling doubts about whether he can do the distance or not. Now Carl will never have that in the back of his mind again.

“That was some effort against Adamu, I think that win has been under rated.

“Adamu was a real live opponent; he was in great shape, came to defend his belt in no uncertain terms and had already shocked a previous British champion in Matthew Barney.

“Carl, in his first ever traditional title fight in front of thousands of fans, not only stepped it up beautifully down the home stretch to secure the win but also became the first ever fighter to floor Adamu – as an amateur or professional.

“That performance confirmed what I already knew – that Carl is truly a world class prospect.”

Robert McCracken should know a good fighter when he sees one.

As a professional he claimed British and Commonwealth honours himself and challenged for the WBC title. He also spent a vast amount of time training and campaigning in the States.

“Our top fighters come unstuck when they come up against top Americans,” added McCracken. “That won’t happen to Carl.

“He is that good that he is only the prospect in Britain good enough to go on and beat the American’s in their own backyard.

“I have no doubt that he will win a genuine world title. By genuine I mean WBC, WBA or IBF.

“I even believe that he will unify these titles. Carl is no ordinary boxer.”

‘home II’ takes place at the Nottingham Arena on Wednesday June 2nd. It features Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch vs British super middleweight champion Tony Dodson, Francis Barrett vs Gain Down and other Hennessy Sports stars.
