15.05.04 – By Stephanie Ragusa: In the first bout of the evening, Cincinnati’s Robert Dula (15-0-1, 8 KOs) defeated Eric Howard (10-7-1, 6 KOs) 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in an eight round middleweight attraction. Heavyweights Larry Donald (40-3-2, 23 KOs) faced Sedrick Fields (21-23-1, 15 KOs) in a ten round matchup. Judges’ tallies were 99-90, 99-91, and 100-90 all for Donald by unanimous decision.

The eight round super welterweight battle between European Champion, Roman Karmazin (32-1-1, 21 KOs, NC 1) of Russia and Louisiana’s Jason Papillion (36-11-1, 24 KOs, NC 1) ended in a no contest at 2:46 of round four due to an accidental headbutt.

Fedelatin Champion Owen Beck (22-0, 16 KOs) knocked out Byron Polley (14-3-0, 6 KOs) in 2:43 of the first round.

Las Vegas resident Jesus Mesa lost his pro debut when St. Louis’ Vaughn Alexander (2-0-0, 2 KOs), a protégé of Kevin Cunningham, scored a technical knockout during the final seconds of the opening round.

The evening’s only draw came between Croatian Mario Preskar (3-0-1, 2 KOs) and Brazilian Marcelino Novaes (5-2-1, 3 KOs). All three judges scored the bout 38-38 in this four round heavyweight matchup.

NABF and NABO Champion Rico Hoye (17-0-0, 14 KOs) scored two knockdowns in an impressive appearance against Florida’s Richard Hall (27-5-0, 25 KOs) in an IBF Light Heavyweight Eliminator. After three competitive rounds, Hall was knocked out at 1:10 of the fourth round. Judges’ scorecards read 29-27, 29-27, and 30-26. Hoye becomes the mandatory challenger for current IBF Champion Glenn Johnson.

The IBF Junior Flyweight Championship was contested between Mexican Victor Burgos (37-13-3, 22 KOs) and Thailand’s Fahlan Sakkreerin (54-4-2, 23 KOs). Burgos won by technical knockout at 1:43 of the sixth round. At the time of the stoppage, the judges’ scorecards were split 49-46 (Burgos), 48-46 (Sakkreerin) and 47-47. Following the fight, Burgos commented, “It was a tough fight and very complicated because he was a southpaw.”

Gerald Nobles (23-0-0, 18 KOs) of Philadelphia defeated Bruce Seldon (35-5-0, 31 KOs) of Atlantic City by technical knockout at 41 seconds of the ninth round. Judges scores were again split during this heavyweight attraction and reflected a slight lead for Seldon: 76-75 (Seldon), 77-74 (Nobles), and 76-75 (Seldon).
