11.05.04 – Former British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion DANNY WILLIAMS has launched a stinging attack on Audley Harrison’s performance against Julius Francis last Saturday. The Brixton puncher takes on man-mountain AUGUSTINE N’GOU this Thursday night (13th May) at the York Hall, Bethnal Green for the Vacant WBU International Heavyweight title but he has launched an early salvo at Harrison first. “Like I’ve said all along Harrison can’t punch – he’s a powder-puff,” started Williams.
“He couldn’t knock out Francis, a 39-year-old who has seen better days, who I stopped nearly three years ago in only four rounds,”
“You could see that Harrison was scared to go twelve rounds for the first time in his life and was questioning his own stamina,”
“If Harrison was going anywhere in his career then he would have knocked-out Francis but he just hasn’t got the power to do it and never will have,”
Harrison said after his win that he doesn’t want a fight with Williams anymore. Williams believes he has the perfect excuse now.
“Harrison is so happy that I have re-joined Sports Network and Sky TV because it gives him the perfect excuse not to fight me and it’s an easy option out for him.” Williams continued.
Williams, who lost his British and Commonwealth titles to Michael Sprott in January, made an explosive return in April when he blew away Ratko Draskovic in one round. Draskovic had previously taken Harrison the eight-round distance in March last year.
“That just say’s it all,” said Williams.
N’Gou from the Ivory Coast will provide a stern test for Williams. At 6ft 8in and weighing in at 18 stone, he will not only have a height, weight and reach advantage over Williams but he possesses a sledgehammer punch that has KO’d 19 of his 21 opponents.
“I don’t know too much about N’Gou only that he’s a monster of a man. I’ve seen him at a press conference where he towered above all the other heavyweight boxers there. He can punch and so can I so when we start unloading, make sure you’ve got your hard hats on. When I knock him out and he hits the canvas he’ll probably go through it.”
The fight will also be a Final Eliminator for the WBU World Heavyweight Title and the winner will get a shot at reigning champion Georgi Kandelaki.
